I recently asked one of my longtime female friends if she would mind acting as my "wing{wo]man".

To my surprise, she responded by saying that she had never thought that I was "that guy" and hasn't responded to me since.

I'm pretty sure that, due to the fact that she is dating a guy she met after she met me, and that she has turned down my offers for a date when she was single, that she's not offended by the fact that I'm not looking at her.

Furthermore, she knows that I've had a great deal of difficulty attracting the romantic interests of women and haven't dated in over two years, despite my best efforts.

In the past, I've helped her with her relationships, even going to pick her up from her boyfriends house when they were fighting.

Did I ask too much by asking her to act as my wing(wo)man???

No. If you are good friends and she wants to see you happy why would she mind being you wingwoman. I've done that a few time for my guy friends and it's always been good results. Why is she making such a big deal. Maybe it's just not her thing. Your best bet is to just drop it and find someone else who's more comfortable doing that for you. Some women find it hard when the attention is not on them. Insecurity...I don't know.

It sounds like she doesn't have a man right now and you are like a backup quarterback being used until the starter gets healthy or or the new draft pick is ready to start. Sorry but you'll never be her starter.

Something is missing here. Does she know what being a "wing+++ person does? Apparently you did not explain very well. Further on you said some things that make it look as though you expecting more than "just being there".
