Movies usually last from 1 1/2 to 3 hours, but books take a lot longer than that to read. Therefore, movies must usually cut out many of the details. Even though a movie can often show in a few minutes something that may take a paragraph or even several pages to describe, we will always get the image through the director's eyes, not the author's.

A book requires you to use your imagination, so movie versions are often disappointing as we imagine something different.

Additionally, movies will often change things that are in the book, especially to make happy endings. Readers seem to prefer realistic, rather than happy endings.

For a lot of people, reading a story gives all the intricate details of the surroundings of the scene. Which gives you a more personalized feel about the story, because your own personal mind has to actually create the scene and mentally be there. Whereas watching the movie puts you right in the outside perspective of the storyline. Watching all the events that happen, instead of being there in your own mind. Peoples imaginations go way beyond what they can put on the big screen. It's just more satisfying to those who allow themselves to enjoy it.
