I do not care about how my service will look on my resume and I do not want to join beecause of the training or to prove somthing to myself, or the admiration of others. Least of all I do not care about the pay/enlisment bonus...I want to join because theres just an unexplainable feeling...is this stupid, or selfish

To be straight with you, if you primarily for any of the aforementioned reasons, you join in vain. Indeed, the only valid motive to joining the military (US Army hooah!) is the last reason you described, the unexplainable feeling. That's your sense of duty. You want to join because you know it's the right thing to do, and you want to serve your country. At basic, you'll be taught the 7 Army principles, you already have a few of them down; Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. Don't be mistaken, those other reasons definitely are great perks, but unnecessary. Join, to serve.

If you decide to join the army and haven't done any research or talked to a recruiter and just decided on you own that you were going to do 18x you WILL fail, period, point blank. I don't know how long or how much research you have done, or if you've talked with a recruiter. But that enlistment option is for people who have trained metally and physically for years before they actually joined. It kind of sounds like you decided to join on a whim or purely an emotional decision, which may not last.

If you join as an 18x and you fail at anytime you will be reassigned to 11b, infantryman, you should know this. Make sure that you put in you contact (I don't even know if you can) that you don't want 11b now matter what; unless you do.

Also I think that enlistment option has a success rate of 10% or something. This option wasn't even avaliable until recently and it's used by the Army b/c they know that some people want to join and be rambo. So the recruiter puts this option in front, the recruit fails and is then reassigned to 11b. Where they don't want to be.

Don't let death mongers phase you. Some men have it some don't. When my son came home from school and told me he had been talking to the Army, I tried to talk him out of it (I love my son what can I say). But he told me some facts..he could get killed driving home from work by a drunk driver, OD on drugs if he got caught up with the wrong crowd or simply got shot in a drive-by. He made since so I could not argue with him. I did tell him that if he was going to join the military make sure it's the branch that is right for him. He joined the Marines and is currently serving in Iraq. Just remember more come home then don't. Semper Fi - Until they all come home

My substantial reason became the college money yet I additionally enjoyed the belief of being in a collection atmosphere like severe college activities. It grew to become out nonetheless that the national look after became basically a bunch of historical, bodily defunt, politicians caught in a vietnam era military. I did get the college money. I did get to work out different worldwide places (Panama, Kuwait, Iraq) i did no longer make any friends i did no longer study something I did get shot at with the two bullets and mortars (i actually wanted this just to assert i were with the aid of it) ....blah blah blah in case you will connect the army connect the lively military or the Marines. The national look after is only pathetic.

Sure that is fine. Heck, I joined back in 1981 just because I always wanted to be in the Army. I just liked Army stuff. I did have a few of those other factors (prove something) but mostly I just wanted to be in the Army.

I joined because I had a fight with my mom and wanted to get out of town!!!!! If you believe it is right and what you what to do, that's all that matters. Ask yourself this: At the end of the day, can you go to sleep and be satisfied that you did what was right and best for you? If the answer is yes, I wish you the best of luck and stay safe. Semper Fi!

There are numerous reason people join. I joined because my Recruiter would not leave me alone, now 18 years later, I am a Recruiter because I love everything the military stands for, the brotherhood and service to our Country I truly love.

I can tell you that the reason you want to join, even tho you don't know it yet, is because you want to serve your Country too. You want to be part of something greater than any of us individually. You want to be part of history and make a difference in the world. You want to stand up for those who aren't strong enough to stand up for themselves. You are a Great AMERICAN!

God Bless you and good luck.

If you have no prospects or imminent plans, I say go for it.

When I was younger, I often thought about the military, but I went to college instead. I learned a bunch of trivia, and still don't have a great job!

Serving in the military is a life experience I wish I had. Perhaps you should act on your curiosity. I promise it won't be boring!

if its something you feel compelled to do, then do it- it is honorable work. if this is a whim and you haven't had this idea very long, wait a while and see how you feel. stupid? no. selfish? how??? i have four military kids and they all had their own reasons for joining. i didn't necessairily agree, but i backed them up. between them there have been 11 deployments to iraq/afghanistan/kosovo. its hard for those at home- i know my children being at war has changed me forever. good luck with making your decision- make it for all the right reasons.
