ummmm stop!!! The rule book says that you can go down on the apron so long as it's not for purposes of passing someone. You can go down there but you have to hold your position. Which, he did hold his position.
second thought, it is not NASCAR's responsibility to let drivers know there is a wreck. That's why every driver has a spotter way up on top of the building so that "they" can alert the driver if necessary.
third point, Harvick was driving a restrictor plated car. All 43 cars driving in the Daytona 500 has to have a restrictor on there car. It is the rules. Who ever told you harvicks car wasn't....lied to you!!!!
4th point, How was Harvick able to win....well...again....go check out the rule book. When you do you will realize that NASCAR doesn't throw the caution on the last lap anymore. So before you say anything, it's important to know what your talking about. otherwise your just assuming and you know what that makes out of you and me.
Real Nascar fans know what they are talking about. They actually read and find out. Now I'm a little sick of hearing about Harvick. I'm ready to move on to the next race.

WOW, thats a mouth full of I dont know what.
Well, Harvick got on the high side with some open clean air and had that #17 Dewalt Ford Fusion get in to his rear and bump drafted him right to the front.....Mark Martin just messed up by trying to block him which caused him to loose some speed and in the end the race. Also if anything should be questioning why the yellow caution wasn't thrown, but they said that the cars were going to the infield and not in the middle. Right :)

Have you graduated from go-cart racing yet? With all that mumbo-jumbo lingo, you must be qualifying for spotter. Since all you saw (if you were looking at the race, not the wreck) you would have seen Harvick receiving a boost from another car by the bump draft and no one was behind Mark Martin. Harvick won by a hood length. If you're a smart race driver (which apparently you aint) you save your car to take it the length of 500 miles, unless you have excellent car builders. Lastly the race was a restrictor plate race as is almost all super speedways. When in doubt, seek NASCAR.com

When you learn how to drive, you'll be able to answer this question. Like many others have said before me, he did it with the good ol' bump draft. Look it up. It's a fundamental to racing at high speeds. Heck, if you get behind another car on the freeway and ride them an inch from their bumper, you can conserve energy there too.
As for "how was Harvick able to do" it... it's because he's a sharp driver. Childress didn't pick a fool to put in Earnhardt's car. He knew exactly what he was doing and Harvick showed his rookie year he would be a force to contend with because of his driving skills alone.

We know this much.... he didn't make the pass with the aid of canned sterno, rocket fuel, jet fuel, vasoline, ether, moth balls, or anything else one can put in a fuel system.
Like the other dude stated.... he got some serious drafting help from the 17 car before things got ugly. He got a great run on the high-side, and was able to side-draft Mark to the finish.
Kudos to Mark for being a class-act! Dale Sr. and many othr drivers would have put Harvick in the wall for sure back in the day.
Last lap.....anything goes!

It's called bump-drafting. Harvick owes that win to Matt Kenseth who, coming out of turn four gave Harvick a great push. It was after that when #5 touched the apron and spun, taking Kenseth with him.

Bump drafting you dummy, one big thing the announcers always talk about is bump drafting and you didnt even hear it.
Martin got loose in turns 3 and 4, Burton pushed Kenseth, who gave a huge push to Harvick and sent him off to the win.
And shut up about Smoke, he did a great job, just went a little too low that one time, and Kurt Busch had no chance.
Bottom line, you're pretty darn misinformed

As others have pointed out, Harvick got a monster shot from Kenseth in turn 4, which will make a significant difference in speed when everyone has plates on.
Funny how all THAT works out!

#17 Matt pushed #29 Harvick so he could pass #01 Martin. During that long caution #29 Harvick talked on radio to his friends for drafting(following a car at high speed make you go faster) help.
