I didn't notice a difference between top and bottom. Don't be scared though. Your gums are numbed before the shot so all you feel is a slight sting. It goes away within seconds and then the rest of the procedure is virtually pain-free. Just don't try and drink anything for a few hours after it though...

Getting the tooth filled doesn't hurt because of the shot they give you. Most dentists put a topical anesthetic on a swab and hold it in the area where they will be giving you the shot. That numbs the area like "orajel" numbs sore gums on a teething child. Once the area is numb the shot doesn't hurt very much. You will feel pressure and vibrations when the bad part of the tooth is drilled away. It shouldn't hurt, just feels weird. Don't be scared. It sucks but will be over soon and you will have a healthy tooth ready to eat some chocolates. Be careful chewing for a couple of hours after until the numbness goes away. Its easy to accidentally bite your cheek. Stick to soft foods until your feeling is restored. Good luck!

Good news! You'll be fine! I just had 4 cavities filled last week and they were all on the top. It was really no big deal. First the Dentist ran a cotton swab with Novicane over my gums where he was going to give me the shot. This is great b/c then your gums are already numbed and so you don't feel the shot as much. The shot itself is uncomfortable, but not painful. It's quick and I felt a strong pinch, but not too bad. Really. The most uncomfortable part about it for me was keeping my mouth open for a long time b/c i have TMJ. But then again, I also had to keep it open for 4 fillings, not one. I learned afterwards that you can even ask for a block or jaw rest to rest your jaw on so that your muscles don't hurt. But it really isn't painful. Next he started drilling a hole in my tooth but I COULD NOT FEEL A THING. I swear. I only know that's what he was doing b/c he told me. It even felt kind of cool to run my tongue over my tooth and feel the hole. Next he filled it with a kind of paste and let it dry. And that's it. Going to the Dentist has never been fun for me, but It wasn't too bad either. I was really freaked out about getting my fillings, but I can honestly say that you have nothing to be afraid of. Good luck and I hope this helps:)

There can be a small amount of discomfort when yiou're getting the needle, but generally it's nothing too bad. I usually just keep my eyes closed, after it first goes in you really cant feel it much.
When you are actually getting the filling done, you only feel pressure. If you have not been numbed properly you might feel a cold sensation on your tooth -- just let you dentist know this is happening and they will give you more local anaesthetic.
The WORST part about getting a filling is the thought of it. Really, once you're in the chair, just try to relax, and remember that it will all be over in a few minutes.

I just got 3 on the top filled, in fact my face is still numb. When they gave me the shot it didnt hurt, the dentist put some Anesthetic on the area he was going to put the shot on so that it wouldnt hurt. You can ask your dentist to do that for you or if its a small cavity you can get it filled without getting numbed (some of my friends have had that done)

The shot is like a little pinch. The dentist will put it in and then sort of massage the gum to get the anaesthetic all over the nerve. after that, shouldn't feel a thing. The drill is to cut away the bad part of the tooth, and then the filling goes in like goo and then is hardened. Takes a very short time and NO RESIDUAL PAIN afterwards.

The shot will fill like a poke then a little discomfort when the medicine is injected after that - - you will feel nothing. If you do feel anything just let the dentist know and he will give you a little more. It doesn't matter if the tooth is top or bottom. It is normal to feel nervous and even a little scared - let your dentist know how you feel and he can explain it to you and you will feel better. It doesn't hurt anywhere near like biting your cheek or tongue.

I was to but the tooth hurt and I didn't want to go with a tooth missing and I thought people go through surgury to get bigger breasts and that has to hurt. this is just a tooth and I don't want to lose it. But it really didn't hurt that much. I took two tylenol before I went in just in case. As back up!
But I was all squenched up and ready to go through hell.
He said, "You will feel a pinch and that was it. Then he packed it full and I couldn't spit. But got the day off and eat soup.
The next day walla, I had it all gone and over with and the tooth was pretty cool it was all silver inside. Best part it quit hurting.
Don't be scared think about sex or something like that while he is doing it. Picture the dentist naked.

It hurts a little bit, but it is better to get it filled, because if you don't you will get an absess and those hurt tons and tons and you will eventually have the tooth fall out. They put something on your gums that help it get a little numb before they do it, but yeah, it hurts a bit more than the pinch the dentist will tell you, but it is something you can sure handle! Good Luck, Take a piece of paper with some friends names on it and hold it tight and think of them.

getting the cavity itself filled doesnt hurt, but the shot they give u in ur gums stings a little bit, but u'll be fine, its nothing to be scared about. It'll hurt worse later to have that tooth go untreated...u'll start to get a really bad toothache, and to me, that's the worst kind of pain.
