As a veteran, I want to thank you for your question. I can tell you our soldiers are discouraged when Anna Nicole Smith and Brittney Spears are more talked about then the great things they are accomplishing overseas.

Whatsmore, is how sad it is when politicians lie and politicize our military for their own power gain.

It is a really sad statement about our fellow Americans. Unfortunately, there really is no good answer to your question.

OK. I know this is not what a lot of people want to hear, but as a veteran myself, I can tell you that a lot of your forgotten heroes prefer to stay forgotten.

War is an ugly experience at best. Anyone who has seen his buddies die a gruesome death, and been responsible for the deaths of complete strangers, is going to be understandingly reluctant to relive that time in his life.

Maybe it's better that everyone is so concerned about Britney's haircut, or which Olsen twin has an eating disorder this week, because honestly...who cares?

Besides you naming them as the "forgotten soldiers", there are other reasons that people don't talk about it. One of the reasons is the soldiers themselves. It's often like pulling teeth to get soldiers to talk about what happened to their departed buddies. I know, I am a soldier, freshly returned from Afghanistan. The other reason is that death is seldom a feel-good story. The news is swamped with bad news. Wars, disease, death, politics. When they get a chance to report something whimsical they do because people want distractions from the parts of the news that make them unhappy. There are places to look for the story of soldiers. Try veterans affairs.

amen to that!...our soldiers really endure a lot of hardships for the benefit of their country. Whether or not personally we support the war, or Bush, those men are out there giving their all in a country that's far away from home, along with the aspects of war. Here's to hoping they come back home soon and safe..

I agree but also would like to include our many soldiers who have put their family lives on hold to serve our country. Many soldiers miss the births of their babies, the birthdays of their wives, husbands & children. There is no getting back a 3 yr olds birthday or the 1st step of a toddler - they do not ask for pity they chose their life but respect is the least that we owe them. They live in dirt & are shot at, worry about bombs everytime they are in vehicles, they see death & have that edge of fear with them all the time. Surely we can respect their job & not try another disgraceful treatment of them like Vietnam. Is it about money? being right? It is not about our military.

But what about Britneys hair! And Anna Nicole...what about her embalmed silicone boobs? Dont you have a heart? Dont you know what is important in life?
I agree with you. America is so out of touch with reality. I hate to say it, but at times i think we need another good kick in the butt like on 911 to wake us up to the real world. Maybe thats extreme-but people really do need to wake up.

The government tends to forget us when the fighting is over, too. You watch, next time we are at peace, the gov will start cutting benefits as they always have done. I wish I could forget, but that peace won't come until I die, but thanks for caring.

thanks crystal for asking this important question, and it doe's need to be addressed, it is such a shame that we have weeks and months of news coverage on some soldiers who killed some civilian or raped some probable a prostitute, but, seldom a single sentence about our men who are fighthing and dying for us,
unless of course it is something that is detrimental to them,
why in hell would anyone want to volunteer to fight for this country under such circumstances, I wonder if they are worth fighting for,
