You can check for leaking microwaves, with a car radar detector.
You shouldn't get too close to the little holes in the door-window. They only allow microwaves that are going sideways to get through. That way the glass is very thick and will 'stop' it. The metal edge bends some of the waves, and they will get through.
As for food, the cooked stuff is safe, just like boiling.
So if you want healthy options, eat it raw!

The old school microwaves are bad because they don't have any protection against the radio active waves. But the newer ones are much safer. However, it still might be a good idea to not stand in front of it for a long period of time, exspecially if you have a pacemaker, or are pregnant.

They've been safe ever since the '60s when they got the idea to seal them

Micorwaves use, well, waves. Waves aren't like a a physical poison so they are dangerour while they are moving but they dissappear once they've stopped.

It's also one of those things that can be dangerous so now it's super regulated and they have to be made safe.

NO they are not. Eating cold food is bad for your health. Consuming large amounts of fuel to warm an oven to get your supper reheated is bad for your health. Having the convenience of efficient heating to prepare your food lowers your stress level and that is great for your health.

I had an old aunt who worried that using an electric toaster to heat her slice of bread would harm her health. If she thought about microwaves she would have scared herself about what she warmed up there - unnecessarily.

I have read that they are, in fact, bad for your health. Smoking cigarettes and eating foods with all kinds of additives won't kill you on the spot but, over time, they lead to cancer and other illnesses. Same goes for microwaves. The FDA and the FTC say that the fluoride and chlorine in our drinking water is not harmful...think about that...if you drank a full cup of fluoride or chlorine you would become very ill or possibly even die. Just because we're consuming it in very small amounts "they" say it's safe. They don't kill us on the spot but microwaves, cigarettes, air pollution, food preservatives and prescription drugs are all toxins that are killing all of us slowly over time.

Not the microwave ovens themselves (with the protective screens), but the utensils that you cook the food in: plastics, styrofoam, some fired stonework, clear wrap, some paper (inks, dyes, glues).

The best is ceramic, glass, corningware, correllware and similar.

Microwave ovens are not harmful to you. The fact is that even if there is a leak it is usually not large enough to emit anything strong enough or large enough to harm you.

Yes. Microwaves can destroy the nutrition in your food and cause cancer. You should never ever put fish in the microwave because it multiplies the toxic effect of the mercury in the fish.
