I have been giving her liquid wormer for roundworms, but the worms are small and look like a grain of rice. Is this the right medicine or is this a different type of worm?????

Sounds like tapeworms. Look for a dewormer called praziquantel.
Tapeworms are caused by either eating an infected flea or bt eating an infected rodent. So if your cat has or recently had fleas or is allowed outdoors to hunt , you will be fighting an uphill battle until these are corrected.

Sweet! Grains of rice! That is the perfect description of tapeworm egg packets. Cats get tapeworms from eating fleas and mice that have the tapeworm inside. Make sure you have your cat on good flea medication like Frontline, advantage, or revolution because if you don't, she will just get reinfected.
After eating the flea, the tapeworm emerges and attaches itself to your cat's intestine. The tapeworm grows really long and the worm is divided into segments called proglottids. These segments are mature at the free end of the tapeworm and break off when they are mature. That is the "rice" you are seeing. Sometimes if they are fresh, they are still wriggling around on the rectum. The "rice" are basically egg packets with thousands of eggs in them.
Its very easy to treat, but the meds can be kind of pricey. Make sure to get the medication from your veterinarian as the over the counter stuff does not always work.

I don't know what kind that's called but my cat had the same worms and it's easy to treat. Take kitty to the vet, they'll shove a pill down his throat and tell you to come back in a week for another dose. Also, I recommend you get advantage or frontline to avoid fleas because that's how that type of worms is spread. Fleas have the worm eggs, cat eats the flea, eggs hatch in cats tummy and the whole vicious cycle starts again.

Tapeworms. My cat has this @ every 3 months. It's from the cat eating a flee. It's super easy to fix. Just tell your vet what the problem is. You don't have to bring anything in. And they will give you a little white pill. It only costs $6. And you just have to give it to your cat. And it kills all the worms within 24 hours. The pill works great. Sorry I can't remember the name of it.

Your first problem is she doesn't have roundworm, she has tapeworm. Tapeworm is caused by her somehow injesting a flea. First, get her treated for fleas. Then get her some prescription medication from your vet for tapeworm. The over the counter meds are a waste of money and ineffective. The pills for this from your vet are VERY cheap. Good luck!

it definitely sounds as if your cat has tape worms. You need to take it to the Vet and he will diagnose and treat them.

You must then make sure that everything in your home is cleaned. Bedding washed in hot water vacuum everything and get rid of the bags.

Your litter boxes should be washed out with a bleach and water solution and fresh litter put in. If you have other pets you may want to have them treated as well. Tape worms can also be transferred to humans so mention this to your family doctor.

Stop using the round worm medication as it will have no effect on tapes.

take care.

OK, white grain looking worms are PROBABLY tapeworms. In which case, your current dewormer isn't gonna work on them. Take your cat to the vet....they can diagnose for sure and give you the appropriate medicine.

To really diagnose the type of worms you should take a fecal sample to your vet for analysis. Make sure that you buy your worming medication from a vet, the stuff on grocery store shelves isn't work a penny!

those rice things are segments of the tapeworm.my cats just got rid of them last month,,,you have to get the meds at the vet or maybe at petco, but 100 percent they are tapeworms,,when you get the meds all the pieces of the worms will die,,,,if you have other pets you'll have to deworm them for tapeworms also,,,,GOOD LUCK
