I cannot see how anyone could see Kyle Petty as a disappointment. It is certainly true that his driving career has not had the lustre that his fathers or grandfathers did, but there is a lot more to a man than that. For starters, lets just look at his career. He's been driving at NASCAR's top level since 1981 (his career starts place him in the top ten in that category). Excellent longevity in a very stressful career, made all the more so by the accomplishments of his father and grandfather. Over that time Kyle has visited victory lane 8 times, most of which will not be remembered by the younger fan. He finished in the top ten in points on numerous occasions.

Off the racetrack, his charitible contributions are second to none. Obviously we are all aware of the Victory Junction camps for critically ill children, developed in memory of his own son who died in a practice crash at New Hampshire some years ago. His charitible ride across America annually exceeds its charitible donations from the year before.

All that and he is the head of one of the most recognized Racing companies around, Petty Enterprises, which appears poised to climb back to the upper echelon of NASCAR. All that and he is one of the nicest men you would ever meet in that garage or out.

I fail to see how anyone could be disappointed with Kyle Petty for all his accomplishments in the sport and in his life.

Is Kyle Petty a disappointment???

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Kyle may not be the best driver on the track, however.....

* His charitble work is unmatched by anyone else in Nascar, maybe even all of professional sports!
* He has been racing in the Cup Series since 1979. Who else in the garage has been there as long?
* Kyle is a great spokesman and a fantastic ambassador for Nascar and motorsports in general.
* Kyle has made an untold number of personal appearances over the years...it's gruelling...but he still does it.
* He's a stand-up family man.

I really think he is a disappointment. Many say he isn't one because of Richard Petty, but his father is the direct reason why he is a disappointment. Richard was one of, if not the winningest drivers ever, while Kyle has yet to end up in the top 10 in a race in these past few years. You'd think he'd have the best mentor, but he Kyle musn't be listening at all. If he has issues in his life, he should retire from racing.

The things that have happened to the Petty family in the past 7 or 8 years with the loss of his son in the practice crash in New Hampshire. An the loss of the family leader Lee Petty just weeks before Adam. This weighs heavy on anyone.
Has he been the next generation driver. Not realy but he has done a good job of keeping Petty Enterprises runnig.

Yes he is. He is an embarassment to Petty Enterprises. Did you ever notice the famous #43 car is not driven by Kyle? That's because as long as "The King" is alive Kyle will never be allowed to drive that #! Kyle may as well use cruise control and relax because the only way he is capable of finishing inside the top 30 is if everybody ahead of him crashes. What a waste of a race car.

Yes, I agree that Kyle Petty is a disappointment. After losing his son, Adam, to the sport, I don't think he has ever been the same. He is in 18th place right now, with 149 laps to go @ Fontana. Let's Watch.

A lot of it has to do with the racing team. Bobby Labonte, a Winston Cup Champion with Joe Gibbs is now getting by with top 25 finishes week after week. Kyle has won a little bit but you can't expect to win unless your team has the money and equipment to succeed. But yea he is a disapointment if you compare to Richard.

Petty like Earnhardt is a name of a legend....but Earnhardt has some talent....Petty couldn't keep the pace car out of the wall let alone that POS Dodge of his.

Petty has never been good and never will be he will always have a sponser due to his daddies name and thats it. Petty just takes up space and he should have been gone along time ago. Just look at his lifetime stats.

No, he is not disappointment. You can not think of him as his Dad or Grandad. His is okay driver. Last 5 to 7 years he has getting Petty going again, plus lost of his son. If you give the cars other driver has, he could not be a Jeff Gordon, But, is won more races!

Kyle Petty, in mp opinion, is a shadow of his fathers greatness. Also, I think since Adam Petty died he has gone soft and does not try as hard as he can in the races anymore, due to fear of death or whatever.

He is a very good guy however, and I like what he does for charity.

Haha me and my dad have a joke where if someone is being very clumsy we call them Kyle..like kyle petty :p
