every dog is easy to house train, size doesnt matter for a first dog... people shouldnt believe those fairy tales...
I wish you luck in your choice, my advice is to spend some time researching the breed, visit the websites of breeders who are currently showing. look at the dogs stance, gaits, head studies, learn the dogs. I spent almost 2 years researching my breed (shetland sheepdog) and saving my money to insure not only that i could afford the pup but that i would be able to provide the neccessary care. be patient, take your time, remember every puppy is cute, choose wisely since it will be your companion for the next 6 to 9 years
oh yeah, color is not the important part, conformation is

First you have to choose what color you want. They come in many. Then look at the pup. Are his or her eyes clear? Look in their ears are they clean aand dont smell funny. Their heads will look a bit big for their body's thats normal. The line from thr back of necks to their butt should be straight with a bit of a downward sag. Their pups so they will still have puppy tummy. Are their legs straight, no bows in them. Look at thir back legs from behind are they straight?
Housebreaking any pup takes time and alot of work on your part. I have not hear that they are any more difficult than any other pup.
If possible bring someone with you that has a dane and get a second opinion from a owner. If not then I hope I've helped.

We have a great dane fawn female mix and she is by far the easiest dog that ive ever house trained. she is 1 now. she can get her "ball" when asked and she can sit, shake, stay and finially learned "down"!! she is fantastic w/my 3 boys aged 18, 13 and 10, and even gets along with our old fat cat, { the cat rules the house!!} its pretty funny to watch this HUGE dog be submissive to the cat! If you have toddlers watch out for that tail, its eye level!!!
