Greater Sulphur Crested Cockatoos can live to well over 100 years old. White Winged Choughs steal chicks from opposing flocks and raise them as their own. With Emus, the male incubates and raises the chicks. Once the female lays her eggs, she leaves. Several birds, including Masked Lapwings (common plovers) divert the attention of possible predators from their nest by flying away from the nest and pretending to be injured and therefore easy prey. Some ravens use the assistance of man in that they drop nuts on the road and allow cars to crack them. Some have even learned to use cross walks for this purpose so that they can safely retrieve the nuts when cars are stopped for pedestrians.

The Yellow billed Cuckoo and the Brown-headed Cowbird are both nest parasites and will lay their eggs in other birds nests, and let birds of other species raise their young. Their nestlings are much larger and more aggressive than the chicks belonging to the host, so those babies will have less chance of survival. Usually only the cuckoo or cowbird survives while the other chicks starve to death or are pushed out of the nest by the more agressive chick.
