Purely hypothetical question... let's say the cops try to pull over a motorcyclist riding a large displacement sport bike. The biker takes off when he sees the blue lights and disappears into the horizon. BUT, the cops manage to get his plate number first. Will they legally be able to prosecute the registered owner based on that information? The owner would probably argue that he wasn't the driver of the motorcycle at the time the offense occured.

can anyone point to a court case where a situation like this came up?

If no, why is it that the courts accept the argument in the case of red light cameras and other situations where the drivers identity can't be proven?

In the UK, if you're asked by the Police to give the details of the driver/rider and you don't, you commit an offence. It depends where you are, but if you're in the UK, then no. They'll be knocking shortly, if they haven't already.

Now why did you run in the first place????? And yes, if they got your plate number, you will be caught and even if someone else was on your bike, you will be the one paying for it.

NEVER, IF THE POLICE OFFICER BECAME ANGRY WITH YOU. VRN IS YOUR ID ON THE ROAD. /and if you start argue in the court, your fine given will be max. /And do not forget that police officer can prepare court papers against your VRN in his own bed if you did manage to upset him ...and no matter when...2 weeks later for an instance... But if you polite,do not argue with official, the same police officer always can disregard your naughty behavior. And I MEAN, ALWAYS!
