Purely hypothetical question... let's say the cops try to pull over a motorcyclist riding a large displacement sport bike. The biker takes off when he sees the blue lights and disappears into the horizon. BUT, the cops manage to get his plate number first. Will they legally be able to prosecute the registered owner based on that information? The owner would probably argue that he wasn't the driver of the motorcycle at the time the offense occured.

If no, why is it that the courts accept the argument in the case of red light cameras and other situations where the drivers identity can't be proven?
