My parents have basically given up on my brother and I'm expected to be better and stay home all the time. I should be able to do more. They say they're trying to protect me but it's getting pretty ridiculous and I feel stuck.

It would of helped if you said how old you are,If you get in trouble at home and school, and just a little more info. Personally most parents are a little more protective of the younger if the older has already caused them many problems. But this does not mean you are the same as he. On the other hand you do need some freedom depending on age, sex, and personality. You need to set down with both parents at the same time,Let them know how you feel...don,t!!!!!! get angry but stay calm and debate with them smart......If they don't agree with you at the moment ,stay calm and ask them just to think about it and see if they might bend just a little bit so you can prove to them you are a person of your word and can be trusted.and keep your word to the letter .....If they don't agree with you right then...don't get mad, don't stomp off but just say ,please think about it and go on doing something Else ...go back and ask again whial they are to gether a couple days later

Get in volved in exrta curricular activities at school join a youth group if you are old enough to work find a little part time job so your parents will see that you want to be responsible. Make sure that your parents meet all of your friends, I do not no how old you are but when I was groing up my friends had very strict parents and made them call and check in every 2 hours but as long as your parents can trust your friends maybe they will let you go out .

Tell them to stop trying to exclude you from the outside world because it will only make you wonder more and that can get you in trouble . There are limitations to your freedom but let them know you cant be punished for your brothers mistakes .

Freedom can only come with responsibility. Prove to your parents that you are a responsible person in the life you have now, and then they will realize that you will be able to be responsible if allowed additional freedoms.

You can either just stay out of trouble and hope they ease up, or go talk to a professional about it, and make sure they come too. He'll most likely point out some of their problems and suggest a different method of "protecting you."

Just keep proving to them that you are not like your brother. Have you given them any reason not to trust you? Keep proving to them that they can trust you.
