I am really confused right now. My boyfriend suggested that I might be bipolar. I have really bad depression spells and I get happy over stupid stuff but that usually last like 10 secounds then I get angry over stupid stuff and sad and frustrated and etc. Then sometimes I lie about the most ridiculous stuff. Thank god my bf is understanding but sometimes I still wonder If we will last bc of these things. I get so depressed I think about death and my funeral or if my dad dies what would happen. I have at one point thought about admitting my self into a pshyciatric hospital. but I didnt bc I might not be crazy. I think people are all against me and I cannt do things I used to bc I am scared people dont like me even if I know they do. I feel helpless And I am so confused. Am I crazy?

If your mood swings are that brief, then it's pretty much impossible for you to be diagnosed with bipolar, so don't worry. You can only be diagnosed with that if each extreme of your mood swings lasts for at least 2 weeks before switching to the other extreme.

It's more likely a type of unipolar depression, possibly borderline personality disorder, or maybe just normal life stress. Most importantly, don't try and diagnose yourself from online questionairres. Those are created and put out by the drug companies that make psychiatric drugs, in order for them to make more money. The only way to know for sure is to see a psychiatrist and have an evaluation.

It sounds more like straight depression to me. Or it could be seasonal affective disorder if you live in a northern area. Or it could be really bad PMS (some women get it really really bad). Or it could be post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. Or maybe borderline personality disorder. You need to see a counselor or psychiatrist to be sure (don't bother with a family doctor, in my opinion). Bipolar usually has a lot of hyperness associated with it, although if you are a young woman, you may not get the mania part yet (usually for women depression comes first). Mania does not have to feel good, it can be a really hyper depression, instead. Usually bipolar depressions are debilitating, meaning you can't go to work or school, or if you do, you are faking it (meaning doing really atrociously bad work). If you are depressed, you might think everyone is against you-for me that is characteristic of a depressive episode.

First of all, how old are you? It sounds like some of the things you are experiencing are common feelings during adolescence (which can technically last up until 30 years of age). However, despite the fact that some of the things you are feeling are normal, some other symptoms you're describing should probably be checked just to be safe. Find a psychologist or registered counselor in your area and they'll help you get a better idea of what's going on. Good luck, and keep appreciating that boyfriend of yours - he's a keeper!

There are 3 classifications of bipolar disorders and many differentials too. Bipolar type I: manic or mixed episode w/ or w/o a depressive episode Bipolar type II: hypomanic episode w/ a depressive episode Cyclothymic: 4 episodes of rapidly alternating hypothymia & dysthymia Manic episodes consist of 4 sx from below lasting for at least 1 week: increased energy, pressured speech (overly talking), lack of sleep, hypersexuality, spending money w/o thinking of consequences, flight of ideas, grandiosity (thinking your the best), increase goal oriented activities w/o completing them Hypomanic episode is the same but only lasting 4 days. Mixed episodes: mainly patients are agited (mix between depression & mania) Usually onset is in 20s...if you think you have bipolar it is good to go to the hospital to get it checked out b/c it can be very dangerous to you and others.

I took a bipolar test at my doctors office and one of the questions did I ever think about killing myself. And I love life so my doctor said I was only depress and gave me some pills that help. You didnt say how old you were but you might be alittle crazy or just plain HAPPY. good-luck

It doesn't sound like bi-polar disorder to me, but it definitely does sound to me like you do have some mental health issues. I have major depressive disorder and I didn't know it but mood swings are a symptom of depression, and also being angry. You should definitely get some professional mental consultation. Good Luck.

No diagnosis without a two hour interview and psychological tests. Bipolar is an over used diagnosis. See a psychiatrist.

Sounds like you need to go to a therapist to sort out what the problem is and find out if you have a real psychiatric disorder.
