As an Army Recruiter, I focus on people who are first time failures and people who are motivated to enlist.

When I say first time failure, think about all those middle class kids who have been told that college is the next step in life. Now, read about how many people actually graduate from college without taking a break.

There's no "preying" on poor kids or minorities. You try going to into a poor area with weak schools and high crime rates and see if you can find very many qualified applicants who a) can pass the ASVAB b) are not disqualified from law violations.

Dead enders are the easiest prey! People with no plans after high school. High school drop outs are encouraged to get their GED's because they too qualify for enlistment.

The same thing applies to colleges and universities where the dead enders hang out. This isn't quite as lucrative as the high school level, but they need to tap every resource available to them.

People in menial, low paying jobs, fast food comes to mind as a source to find new recruits. Health clubs are yet another source.
as are sports stadiums and ball parks where large groups of candidates can be found. Career exhibitions are yet another source for recruiters to visit.

Why are there still people who think that the most of the people who join the military are either poor or have some sort of problem?

Are they a bunch of John Kerry wannabes?

Even the news media has been forced to admit this is nothing but a stupid stereotype that only idiots believe.
