Kid i know in Utah (17 years old) was driving home drunk. Ran into a car and killed a pregnant mother, and her two kids. Fled the scene and was found in a neighbors yard. What sentence do you he'll get?

Sounds like an absolute tragedy that could have been avoided. With a competent attorney I feel they will apply for Y.O.(youthful offender) status. If that is granted then his sentence would be less than if he were tried and convicted as an adult. It will also depend if he has any priors.

From what you stated in your question he will be charged with DWI, reckless endangerment, eluding, hit and run, and vehicular homicide and that is on the number of people killed. This person could possibly spend the majority of his adult life behind bars if tried as an adult.

However, with the judicial system we have it will depend greatly on the attorney he has. I would also bet that even after all the plea deals are over with he will serve at least ten years.

My prayers go to the family or what is left of it, that this "kids" choice and action took away as well as the "kids" family.

Intoxication Manslaughter and Failure to stop and render aid would probably be the charges. I don't know about Utah but in Texas Intoxication Manslaughter is a second degree felony. Since there a pregnant woman and two kids. thats four counts of intoxication manslaughter. Second degree felony is a crime punishable by 2-20 years. multiply that by 4. that's not including the failure to stop and render aid. Point is, he might be in there for a while. I could be wrong. I'm only saying what it is in Tx
can't be first degree felonies because even though it is murder it is reckless and not intentional

This depends greatly if he is tried as an adult. as a minor he will lose his Driving privaledge for 3 or more years And most likely stay in a juvenille detention till 18. if as an adult 7 years or more for manslaughter by vehicle drunk driving add 5 more, leving the scene of the accident even more. I pray your friend learns a valuable lesson from this.

We're talking about Utah people, he is not going to get the death penalty. He more than likely will get 10 years or less. The person that bought the booze for him could very well get more time than he does if they find that out.

It depends if it is his first offense.

In passing sentence, the court looks at factors in mitigation, and factors in aggravation.

Further, if the defendant pleads guilty to a lessor crime, as opposed to trying the case, he will probably get a smaller sentence.

He may get vehicular homicide, Leaving the scene of an accident, Fleeing and Eluding, instead of vehicular homicide, he could get negligent homicide or murder charges. He needs a good lawyer.
