The Airborne Helmet had a different style of chinstrap, it was more of a "harness" . CHeck out http://www.m-1helmet.com/ for more details

The entire Airborne uniform was different. The jackets, blouse, and pants had a lot more pockets and places for carrying things for obviouse reasons. The helmet had a chin strap to keep the helmet from getting blown off in the prop blast and to keep it on during the opening shock. When I was a cherry in jump school a lot of guys still lost their helmets in the prop blast and you had to be aware of falling helmets. One guy in my stick got hit by a falling helmet and suffered a concusion. That was on a Monday. We didn't see him again until Friday. You needed five jumps that week to get your wings. They let him make four jumps that day so he could graduate with us. Pretty cool. When I got to Div, the 101st., we would jump with a lot of equipment. You always wondered who would loose what and if it would hit any one on the ground. It was the best time of my life. I wish I could go back to that time when I was a 20 yr. old paratrooper. Best friends, best time of my life. Really good people.

Only a slight difference - it has an additional strap that the "non-Airborne" helmet did not have. Both helmets had a "throat strap" that went under the chin, but the Airborne helmet also had a buckled-on chin cup that helped hold the helmet more secure.
