Enjoy compliment(s) (like you might enjoy the scent of a particular cologne) but don't depend on the comments, however favorable, of others to sustain you. You need to create your own sense of self-worth and confidence and not look to other people to give it to you.
Have you ever tasted cologne? It tastes horrible (at least the stuff I've accidentally gotten in my mouth has!). You'd have to be beyond desperate to deliberately drink the stuff and it'd probably make you very sick as well!

Flattery is the act of giving excessive compliments, generally for the purpose of ingratiating oneself with the subject. Flattery often, but not always, connotes insincerity.

This statement is trying to warn you of this.

Proverbs 29:5 "A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet."
Proverbs 26:28 "a flattering mouth worketh ruin."

Beware of a flatterer; he does not flatter merely to please you, but to deceive you and profit himself. Above all things abhor flattery, for he who uses this detestable art is surely plotting your overthrow.
It is wisdom to suspect those who flatter us, that they are secretly laying a snare for us, and to stand on our guard accordingly.
Enjoy it but be careful of it.
