Back to medeival times, it has always been a tradition to belch after eating a meal to show appreciation for what you were given to eat. And something that was frowned upon if you didnt belch after a meal, seen as bad manners.

I know what you are saying. It is absolutely disgusting and irritating. I would like to add a couple of other annoying things people do like tapping on the table with fingers, clicking the pen 25 thousand times when someone is talking, making noise while eating, sneezing so loud that everyone around should be startled.
In general, I hate anything that is done loudly. Any action, can be done discreetly if we try to do so.

In North American culture, it's bad manners to belch at the meal table. People should be sensitive to this, for it makes some people feel squeamish.

But...if you are trying to suggest that women don't do the same things, I'm afraid I am going to have to call BS.

Apparently, it's considered courteous (like a compliment to the chef) to belch loudly at the end of meals in some cultures.

Or a guy wrote those multicultural etiquette books to cover for his Simpson-esque burps.

I'd say that they were'nt taught better. It's plain bad manners. My best friend does it when we're alone, cause I'm one of those people who laughs at that. But the second we're out with other people HE knows how to behave...

We know that if we let it out--noisily--out the OTHER end, after a meal, you'd REALLY be pissed off! (It's lesser of two evils, my sweet!)

thank you, come again!
