meningitis, is a virus that causes swollen lymph nodes, it depends on where his neck hurts. let him sleep as long as he wants, if it is a virus, to will get better the more liquids he drinks.(if he is sick with something that sounds serious like this sugar will make things much worse) keep him away from sugary drinks like applejuice, grapejuice, SODA, anything with 18+ grams of sugar. milk, water and all natural orangejuice with no artificial anything will help him alot. the best drink for settling a stomache would be diet 7up or sprite, these are the only sodas i reccomend because ther is no caramel coloring. let him eat crushed ice, and saltine crackers. for 12 hours after he stops puking. it will also be greatly appriceated by him if you ACTUALLY GO SEE THE DOCTOR. you are absolutely right, it could be something more serious! if you had the same symptoms wouldnt you find someone to take you to the doc. not to be mean or anything. but if he is feeling that bad, forget what your doctor said get him in there ASAP! not next week, not tommorow, NOW!!!!

If his neck seems stiff at all (try to have him bring his chin toward his chest), or if light bothers his eyes, bring him to an ER right away. Those, as well as the headache, are symptoms of menningitis.

Otherwise, does he have a fever? He may need Tylenol to be more comfortable. Watch his throat. If pus remains in his throat, and his tongue gets coated white, he probably has a strep infection and will need to get on an antibiotic. You never want to fool around with a strep infection either, if left untreated, it can cause lifelong problems to the heart.

Sounds yucky. A puss pocket? Sounds really yucky.
My kids have not had anything like this but they have had some weird stuff. I had a three year old hallucinate from a fever once!

Follow the basic rule of thumb: Watch how high the fever goes, watch his eating and energy. If the fever gets too high, he gets lagargic, or stops eating then you may need to take further steps.

I hope he feels better soon.

I would take him to the ER if you are worried. Meningitis is really serious, and waiting overnight can mean the difference between life and death. Although it is likely it is not that, if he has a headache that is really concerning because kids do not normally get headaches.

I am surprised at your doctor's response. If he is still has the headache and and puss in this throat, take him to the ER.

I'd take him to the doctor - especially if meningitis is going around....headache, vomiting...they're part of meningitis, and your child probably can't communicate everything he's feeling clearly. He should be seen at the pediatrician's office.

Seriously, get a new doctor. Puss pockets are a sign of a lot of serious diseases, and a lot of not so major ones. Him just not wanting to see him seems irresponsible to me.

My daughter had that and it was strep throat. Which ... if not taken care of can turn into scarlet fever. Take him to the doctor. He needs meds. Most kids present with a headache when they have strep. Good luck
