Hearing is simply the act of perceiving sound by the ear. If you are not hearing-impaired, hearing simply happens. Listening, however, is something you consciously choose to do. Listening requires concentration so that your brain processes meaning from words and sentences. Listening leads to learning.
Most people tend to be "hard of listening" rather than "hard of hearing."

Hearing is soundwaves impacting upon your eardrums. It can be ambient such that you don't even know you hear it (rain on the window, birds in the distance) or it can be quite obvious like thunder or someone speaking.
Listening implies an attempt to understand. You listen to something when you want to know what it is or what it's about.
You hear in your sleep, but you do not listen.

Listening means you understand and comprehend what you HEAR. Hearing is the ability to hear noise. Just because you hear something does not mean you can identify it

hearing is basically whatever the sound is going in one ear and out the other. Listening is comprehending what you hear, and turning it into thoughts. Good luck turning that into five paragraphs. I tend to be concise.
