Vietnam was not a police action in theory. It was about containment. Containment is a term which means 'stopping the spread of communism'.

BUT technically it became a police action because many of our troops were stuck in situation they were not allowed to get involved in; rather, had to stand by and 'police' the situation AFTER the conflict started.
