There were indeed 67 Shelby GT500's. Reputedly about 47 of them were made with 427 engines instead of the more usual 428's. Top speed depends on a few different things, gearing and aerodynamics being high on the list. Back in the late 60's, highly respected TransAm series Mustang racer Parnelli Jones once stated that even in race trim Mustangs tended to "hit an aerodynamic brick wall" right about 150 mph. A GT500 with a 427 is no doubt a strong car but it's a safe bet that Jone's statement about 150mph would also apply. (No matter what they did in some movie somewhere.)

Well take it out on the highway and with a couple/three/four buddies as spotters for the cops and if all of ya have CB radios or cell phones that act as 2 ways pick a night when the temp is around 60-75 deg.with low humidity and find out for yourself. Too many factors to variable in;engine and condition, tranny,(auto or stick ) and rearend gear ratio along with tire size,.Put 2 out front ,one in the middle and two at the end in case a patrol car comes by .Make sure all have radar detectors and communications is a must in case ya got to shut it down with Smokey on patrol.Night air is the best or near dawn

I never had the GT350 over 130, so I don't know. Likely 160+. There was also a GT500, with a larger engine, so it would be faster.
