No... Absolutely not true! Tapeworm infections in the United States are quite rare. Actually, all parasitic infections are rare in the US (except maybe scabies, lice, and pinworms).

However, as I find the infection very interesting, here's a bit of trivia- The two most common flavors of tapeworm causing infection in humans:
Tania Soleum (pork tapeworm)
Tania Saginatta (beef tapeworm)

But you don't have either one of these.

No, not everyone has a tapeworm. Tapeworms are actually relatively rare in developed countries with good hygeine practices. I'm sure if everyone had a tapeworm, they would be showing up a lot more often in colon exams and in endoscopies of patients with GI problems.

Do I Have A Tapeworm

No. If we did there would be an epidemic. NOT everyone has tapeworms, don't worry. And don't believe the other people on here who will say yes just to freak you out. If you're still concerned (although it's quite ridiculous) talk to a health care professional.

The only way people get tapeworms is through poorly cooked pork, beef, or fish. some tapeworms can grow as big as 60ft in length!
