Best times to go:
right after new years
not in summer
not for any holidays, esp. new years
the "off season", if such a thing exists in disneyland
go to ridemax.com to download program to help maximize your ride times. i recently did that when my family and i went-- best schedule ever! seriously, it helps!
also go to mouseplanet.com to see what rides are closed, parades, fireworks, fantasmic times, etc.
places to eat:
riverbelle terrace--good food, not overpriced
carnation cafe--reservations required in advanced, but it's really good
french market
cafe orleans
blue ribbon bakery
club buzz- really good funnel cake and breakfast
redd rocket's pizza porter--good pizza, afordable
Tricks to avoid crowds--
1. go during shows to rides, but NOT anything in fantasyland, esp. alice in wonderland or matterhorn
2. do NOT go to pirates of the caribbean during fantasmic, it's one of the worst places
3. go to rides during parades
4. ditto for fireworks, but fantasyland closes, so be careful
5. ARRIVE EARLY!!!! i cannot stress this enough, but get to the park at least an hour early for good spots in line. the park doesn't really start filling up until about an hour after it opens, so get there early!!!
6. stay until about half an hour till it closes. many parents with young kids or toddlers go home early, and it clears out a bit in late evenings
General Tips for Success
1. go during off seasons
2. book a nearby hotel
3. ARRIVE EARLY!!!
4. do not go to most popular rides in middle of the day
5. avoid crowds at restaurants--go a little early or later in the day
6. budget money and time carefully
7. if traveling with young children or older adults, go back to hotel for about an hour a day and take a nap. this saved our lives, trust me!
Hotels
1. do not stay anywhere really expensive unless you're staying at disneyland hotel or grand californian, but even then i don't recommend it. it's overpriced and they're doing construction on the monorail right now so you can't take it back to disneyland hotel.
Hotel recommendations:
Howard Johnsons
Desert Palm Inn and Suites
Do not stay:
portofino
Desert Inn and Suites (different from above)
anywhere too far away or without free shuttle
I hope this has helped you prepare for your trip! Enjoy your vacation and have fun!!!

I just recently went there and i noticed that during the week there is Defentily wayy less ppl. like 5-15 minute line ups. on the weekend its much busier but still ok. Um.. i would suggest going during alittle more cooler time of the year because if not u'll boil in the line ups. ( Perfeibly oct, nov, december time)After parades sometimes the parks closes sooon right after soo everyone piles into california adventure. it may be busy so advoid that and go to downtown disney.( but not always do ppl go. Check it out and maybe it wont be busy or one certain ride may be short). I stayed at Crowne Plaza. it was a nice hotel, 1-3 minute bus ride to the park too. Once u get there you will catch up with what happens and you will get the hang of figuring out stuff just like i did. In the area all around Crowne plaza there is many places to eat, the ones that i can remember are a steak house, fish resturant, Red Robin and dell taco. Corner stores for mostly all ur needs are in the area, a Target is right across the road and there is an outdoor pool in the hotel. A shuttel bus comes every so often to drive u to D.L. you will get a scehdule when you arive. the bus picks up and drives people from Crowne Plaza and the Hyatt. I enjoyed my stay there very much. I hope i helped u

Everything is overpriced, but once you accept that you will be fine. Eat at Downtown Disney area somewhat expensive but decent food; try and get a local (if you know one) to buy you tickets as there is a CA resident discount; It gets cold at night so dress in layers; California's Disney Adventure isn't really worth the $; Start early; If you eat in the park eat in the New Orleans area, there is a place that serves soups/chowders in bread bowls that are very filling and the price isn't bad; Go on all the old classic rides as they are still the best and most imaginative; try not to go when schools have their holidays....I am sure that you will get some good advice from Disney fanatics about this topic. You should do a web search on this, there are many Disney fans out there who are much more detailed.
And have fun. Disney is what it is, but there is some good stuff about it too, especially for the kids. Everyone should go once.

Ignore the racist jerk above with the TJ comment. Then go to Disneyland during the week and not during the summer and it wont be very crowded. There is a restaurant that looks out on the Pirates of the Caribean ride - a lot of fun and decent New Orleans style food. Other than that, bring in some drinks and snacks to save some cash, and you're all set.

Dress in layers
I go on Super Bowl Sunday, the first week in March or on any other big sports event that is on TV. Mach seems to be the slowest month of the year. But go during the middle of the week. Food is very expensive soooooo I bring some protien bars and restrict myself to my fav treats. disneyland hotel is very expensive but nice. Marriot across the street is a little less.

Do not go during school vacation and/or weekends if you can help it.
It can get very crowded during that time, and you will have to wait a long time to get on popular rides.

F--k Disneyland, and that scam also known as California Adventure
Everything is so WAY overpriced, and on top of that, the food is garbage, and it's in the middle of Tijuanna...
Coming to CA...take a rental car, and drive up the coast...MUCH better.
