Just use XP's recovery console and choose to install windows without a format that should repair any damaged registry hives and without wiping you hard drive it'll take about 40 min to complete.

I have registry fix. Can't remember what i paid for it. But try freeware.com, they have lots of free stuff there. You may find what you are looking for. Good luck.
