my baby loves to watch TV!! he loves certain programs like barney or some kiddie stuff, and he loves the advertisements shown. It's too much, he can go on the whole day just watching TV.
I'm worried that it might affect his IQ, but whenever i turn the TV off, he turns it on by himself. he's finding ways on his own to turn the TV on without anybody.
HEEEELLLPP!!

there are three Tv's in the house. one in each available room. I can't just unplug it... the plugs are located at the back of the cabinets.

There is nothing wrong with television, shows he can focus and pay attention to something. However, because of his young age, he can form a tendency to ONLY do that. So what you need to do is vary his activities, draw his attention away from tv. Draw his attention by means of interacting with him, usage of toys, and experiencing things other than an animated device. Television can remain positive, but anything in excess is not good. Also, take him outside let him experience it and get a feel for it, kids nowadays don't go outside much just vegetate watching solely television, and that, my friend, drops an IQ or potential immensely

There are two things that might affect him happening here. One is the TV, and the other is a lack of communication.
Make sure you tell him "No!" and turn it off in front of him so that he knows that you mean for it to stay off. If this doesn't work or you don't want to start that process yet, you will have to move the TV to a closet and keep it there for the next few years.
I did that, and I still haven't gotten the TV out. My daughter turns 26 this year, and she's never had a TV at home. Her IQ is just fine, though.

I definitely agree with using the plastic shields so your child can't turn it on by himself, if he doesn't listen to you. Although I know many people say babies shouldn't watch ANY tv, my daughter (16 months) watches between 30 min to an 1 hour of tv a day (Sesame Street), she loves it, but if I turn if off and she complains I just distract her with a toy or take her out of the room and she will soon forget.
I assume that there is no tv in his own room, I would say try to spend more time with him in his room. Babies/toddlers really just want your attention, so if you play with him or read to him he will be happier in the long run, and obviously reading IS good for his IQ.

I have seen baby/toddler 'guards' for TV's.
They are clear acrylic, and they're designed so that you can still use your remote control, but the kids can't hit the buttons.
Here is one place online that sells it: http://www.cyberbabymall.com/22663.html
I'm not personally recommending this website, I just want to show you what it looks like and how it works.
If it would work for your particular TVs, it would be approximately a $40-$45 investment including the shipping, but would probably be worth it!
PS I want to say also what a good mom you are to be concerned about this. Some parents would LOVE to have a kid that would veg out in front of the TV all day and not "bother" them!

It is okay to watch TV at this age, but not a lot of it. A toddler needs lots of exercise. Babies R Us sells clear strips you can put on the front of your TV so that the baby cannot play with the buttons to turn it on himself. I have these and they work great with my daughter - she can only watch when I let her. (They also have the strips for DVD players too!). You can get the strips in the aisle with all their other childproofing stuff. Also try to find other toys and activities that interest him so he is not as tempted to watch the TV.

If might affect his IQ.....alot. By some barney books and other fun books like telitubbies and read to him. Don't read all stiff and unenjoyable. Read with excitement and joy and dont forget kisses. Play cute, fun little games with him. Distract him from the tvs. Get your baby interested in other things.

I see no reason why you can't get behind the cabinet and unplug the televisions. My daughter was limited to 1 hour a day of television. My view was "I'm the parent I have control". But if you want to allow your child to have control of everything...well good luck to ya.

Please stop using the TV to baby sit your child!
Go into a room, without a TV, play with the child and toys together or do a lot of reading. Take the kid on walks or find a local play group. Do everything you can to keep the child away from the 'boob tube'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
