Short layers are a decent idea if your face is just thin. If your face is long, then longer hair with layers, or longer hair period, will just make the face appear longer. If your face happens to be thin and long then you should stick with hair that is shorter if you have the hair texture for it. Take your hair thickness into consideration too though. If your hair is thin then layers are a bad idea. Layers are recommended to those with thick hair to take some of the weight and bulk off and will only make thin hair appear thinner and a bit wispy.

I have an oval face shape and two sisters who work at high-end salons that demand on-going education on trends, color, etc... without fail the minute I let my layers grow out, my face looks longer. Shorter layer from what I'm told add the appearance that your face isn't so long... So, yes, if you have a long, oval shaped face... layers cut around chin area are GOOD!

I thought that I have always heard that getting layers makes your face look wider too. I have a long face and it works for me!
