Disregarding the "illegals", what are your opinions on the actual country? I'm curious to know what people on here think of Mexico.

Throwing in a few questions into one, Do you think "illegals" should have help when trying to go to college? financial help that is. Isn't it completely against anti philosophy to deny them college when you say you wish more of them worked high skill jobs so they could contribute more to this country? And if you were a citizen of Mexico, how would you go about changing the government?

ok, i lived in mexico and i loved it. the people are great, but they are different and it was difficult for me to get used too. for example, things are said in order to save face, rather than simply being honest. such as "hey, lets get together for dinner!" is said to be polite, not because you actually plan on doing it. and men's views on women was particularly hard for me to understand. also, mexicans make fun of people's physical appearance, but they get really insulted when you make fun of their ideas...whereas in the US you would never comment on a persons looks, but it's accepted to be critical of thoughts. however there are many great things such as mexicans being so welcoming and accepting. their eagerness to share their culture, food, etc... a lifestyle that isn't driven by greed and money...people have time to enjoy things such as friends and family. but i could never say i would choose mexicans over americans, or vice versa, because i think at the deepest level i'll only ever truly understand my culture, and it will always be a struggle for me to totally understand the mexican way of being. that said, i don't feel like i have to choose one as being "better" or worse.

as far as your questions....of course education would contribute to a better qualfied work force, and yes this would benefit mexicans, and i think in turn that would benefit the US. but one thing about american people...as i'm sure you know, we are really black and white when it comes to the law. we don't care for law breakers. so...no, it isn't against this philosophy to refuse to educate and give financial aid to illegals. and when you speak of college...well, it's very easy to get a student visa, there is a very legal way for mexicans to be educated in the US...and even to receive financial help... they just need to do it!!

if i were to go about changing the government in mexico...i guess i would first have to change the mindset of the wealthy and powerful. they must stop fearing the poor, they must stop believing that keeping power only to themselves will benefit mexico, and they must STOP being selfish! next, education education education. the poor people in mexico are a problem, they are unable to make the best decisions for themselves because they are not educated. and because they are not educated, they don't even see their bad choices. (aka people who save thousands to pay a cayote, yet don't think to spend this money to open a successful business IN mexico! they end up in the US leading a worse life than they had!) i can see why the powerful fear the voting choices of the poor...because the poor are virtual incapable of making and informed and educated choice. they can only think in the short term, what will get them through the week...and this is understandable. so i say...education reform is KEY to changing the government in mexico.

that said, mexico is a country of gray, slippery slope, there is no concrete right or wrong, no concrete laws that can't be avoided, and in fact mexico does not judge based on people's actions, such as we do in the US, hense no real need or desire for change. i hope change is possible, but sometimes i think culture just runs too deep.

I've never been to Mexico, but I do know some legal Mexican immigrants. While I find the men to generally be chauvanistic, the women are friendly and fun, although I don't necessarily enjoy the way the women cater to the men. But hey, to each their own. As long as they are legal and not selling drugs, I don't care if they're happy that way.
