The reason for the growth is that you have bad seals on your windows and the air leakage is causing condensation. The condensation is feeding mildew. Step #1 is to have the seals fixed (neither difficult nor expensive if they're vinyl windows). If they're wooden windows, then call your local church to find a handyman (eg a nice retiree with lots of knowledge and time on his hands) and have him come over to fill the spaces around your windows with Great Stuff (a spray in insulation).
To remove the mildew, mix 1 part bleach with 8 parts warm water and scrub it off. Be careful not to get it on your carpets or floors. But it's going to keep coming back as long as the air leakage is happening. So the fix isn't permanent until you tackle that.

There are aerosol sprays availble that do kill mildew and mould, clean off as much mildew as you can with a dry cloth and spray all effected surfaces, leave for about 15 minutes and spray again and work the spray into the mildew with an old toothbrush clean it agian with a dry cloth spray again, and again dry with a cloth, don't use a wet cloth.
I have tried this method after all others failed and it works for me

Go to a hardware store ... there are treatments that you can apply to remove mildew and stop it from growing again.
I suspect you have it because you are a clean person ... you take a lot of showers or baths and there is always moisture inside the house

You need to find the source of the moisture to keep it from coming back. Since your are noticing it around the windows, I suspect you have leaks around the flashing or the caulking needs to be replaced. You will need to do a little detective work to find the source. Mold will not grow without moisture. To clean what is there use a diluted bleach solution..

Yupp.....lots of moisture but not enough ventilation...so any steam...from bathing, showering or cooking is trapped, causing the mould. Clean it with straight bleach....not loads just a dampened cloth and some elbow grease, the problem being until you improve your ventilation....it will come back.

hi,i remember seeing on the tv programme how clean is your house that kim and aggie had particulary bad stained areas they used to soak a long peice of cotton wool in either bleach or bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar and wrap or place it on the areas affected and leave it to work its magic for a while .you could also try soda crystals that may work .
hope you manage to sort it out :)

BLEACH and lots of it!!!
You can dilute it with water, but make sure it is about 75% bleach! If you use bleach, open the window or wear a dust mask, it can make you a bit woozy in enclosed spaces!
God Bless!!

Spray bleach on it and reduce the moisture that collects there. Possibly with a dehumidifier.
