The Vietnam War is taught in school with differing opinions in other countries for obvious and not so obvious reasons.
In the U.S. we've been taught with an opinion that the War was a complete failure, we shouldn't have been there, etc., etc., etc. Coverage while I was in school was quite extensive as the era was an important part of our history.
My wife, who is Vietnamese and went through school in Vietnam, did not have much exposure to the Vietnam War during school. What little she had been taught covered liberation of their country from the French and Americans with an emphasis on the French. Vietnam's history is lined with wars, and the Vietnam War to their history is barely a blip compared to other wars they've been through.
The reason for the war is taught differently between the two countries. U.S. schooling teaches the fight against communism, while Vietnamese schools teaches the fight against French colonialism. We may perceive the reasons for U.S. involvement in the war as questionable, but the Vietnamese perceive their reasons as a fight to preserve their country.
The advantage I have as an American is to discover the truth for myself without worry of persecution. I had been studying Vietnam and the Vietnam war since I was in Junior High, and have formed a much different opinion from either American or Vietnamese schooling. What I've learned is not who was right or wrong, but why mankind as a whole should do everything they can to avoid any war. Millions and millions of Vietnamese had died in that war because of politicians. Next time, the politicians should go to war and die instead of the innocent they are supposed to represent.

Yes the Vietnam Police Action is taught in schools, I took a class primarily on that war, and did who win or lose? The war wasn't really a war it was a police action, it was never actually declared a war.

People keep saying we would have one if we let the military do its job... so many people died, and so many more would have dies had we not pulled out... Leaving Vietnam really didn't hurt us any, and I would rather say yeah the US lost on then imagine the more soldiers who would have died! Luckily Iraq doesn't have jungles like Vietnam so we are able to keep casualties relatively low than we could with the rebels in Vietnam... andd i'm starting to think the rebels want us to leave so they can kill each other... I think were staying to save face with the rest of the Arabic community we want to show that we can fix it.... without having their help, leaving with our heads high and still getting their oil!

It OFFICALLY involved in the Vietnam War it wa called police action. The only reason we lost was because of extremly bad media coverage of the war. No it is not taught in schools in the usa.

Nixon made a deal with the North, pulled out troops out, 2 years later the North broke the treaty and invaded the south. More like a draw overall.

I wasn't really taught about it in school. Most everything I know about it is from my family and my own research. We, the US didn't win- it was much like the war that we are in now, eventually we just pulled out.

I had a teacher who was a Vietnam vet who made sure we knew all about it. He later became a real hero again in his final days by losing his life in a skydiving accident to make sure a Miss North Carolina didn't die.

We won every major battle, yet we lost, because of the leftists back home and the governments refusal to commit to the war full-scale.
