My sister's cat keeps peeing in the tub. It's really getting annoying, and it smells awful. We think that maybe she is sad because my sister went back to college, and that my cat misses her. It would be really helpful if somebody could tell me maybe why she is doing this and how to stop her?

Oh, and I don't think she's sick, she seems perfectly fine other than that.

My cat does the exact same thing, except as well as the bath tub she does it in a corner near the front door as well. We tried putting a litter box in these areas, but it didn't work. We just gave up after a while and put puppy training pads down in these places.

I have also noticed the possible cause of this to be loneliness as well. When you start to pet my cat, and then walk away, the cat will go over to the bathtub and pee. It seems they can't handle being left alone when they want attention.

Cats will pee on wet things so dry the tub after use. Also, they will pee in a "safe" place ie over a drain like in a tub if their litter box is too dirty to use so you might want to make sure it is extra clean for the next few weeks so your cat knows that it is "safe" to use.

Cats will also pee in odd places if they have a UTI because they are trying to tell you something is wrong. When they have a UTI the pee smells very strong. There are no other real symptoms of UTI so I would get a vet to check her out. My cat had one and I didn't realise until it was almost too late and then I was up for very expensive vet bills.

Hope this helps! :)

I have a cat this does this also. I don't know why, nothing out of the ordinary is going on, but she's done this for several months now.

Honestly, I don't care. All you have to do is turn the water on and wash it away. She pees in the drain. If she peed all over my house, I'd be upset.

I don't think I could find a better place for her to go if it's not in the litter box though. Actually I think it's kinda smart. Be glad she's not peeing all over your house, on the bed, the couch, or the carpet anywhere. they are very capable of doing all these things. The bathtub is really not a big deal compared to what she could be doing.

Depression could be the problem, however, I had a cat start doing that same thing and I couldn't stand it. I took her to the vet and he said that is could also be a sign of a urinary tract infection. Even if the cat is acting completely normal they are infamous for hiding pain. I would take it to the vet just to be safe.

Cats like to pee on "wet" things.
I would just put some spray bleach in that tub edge for a while and see if that distracts her.
