Yes, she can still get pregnant. You can take her for a walk, just make sure you keep her away from other dogs (E.g., if you see someone walking towards you, cross the street).

If you're worried about her getting pregnant, just have her spayed and you won't have this problem!

hi , it is usually 3 wks but it can vary couple of days either way . My female staffy is not spayed & i dont intend to breed her either . Shes our friend . Hun i still take my dog out when she is is season , I dont see why she should not be able to as she doesnt understand why she cant go . All i do is change the times i take her to hopefully have less chance of meeting other dogs, Where we walk ppl must have dogs on leads so i feel very happy she will be ok. If by any chance a dog is coming to close i simply move , cross the road . If you are worried hun stay close to your home maybe around the block if your worried you may not be able to deal with a situation if it arose . At least your dog has had alittle outing . I have bought the spray for my dog before but i found it made no difference . Obviously dont let her off the lead & make sure if you let her in an enclosed area eg yard , garden she can not escape & others can not get in. Ignore ppl on here who seem to have digs about breeding or speying , Just look at those who answer your question hun . Yes she can become pregnant & just be on your guard whilst out alittle more than you would normally. If you want your dog speyed thats up to you & dont have her done just because ppl may think you want to breed her if she isnt . As i said my dog isnt spayed & ive no intention of breeding her . Good luck x

Having just been through this with my 10 month old German Shepherd, I know what you are putting up with, the 3 weeks seem to go on forever don't they? Yes she can still get pregnant but you can take her out on a lead, if possible take her in a car (lift her in) to somewhere away from your home, give her a nice walk and then when you get home again lift her out of the car and into your garden, this minimises her scent advertising where she is, I know what a pain this is especially if like me you have a large breed, my b1tch is 5 stone in weight!! so lifting her in and out of the car was fun, you really need to do this for another couple of weeks, some bitches are in season 4 weeks, unless after the 3 weeks is up her vulva is completely back to normal size, then you are ok, but give her a bit of a wash in that area before taking her out, then when she has had 3 clear months you will be able to get her spayed, don't know or care what they do in other countries, vets won't spay a b1tch in the UK until 3 months after a season. I have 3 bitches 1 waiting to be spayed and the others done 3 months after 1st season.

Seasons last about three weeks, but like humans can vary, so keep a close eye on her for the next two weeks . You can walk her ON A LEAD but avoid other dogs. Use a anti-mate spray from the pet shop to mask her hormone scent. Spay mid season to save all this hassle in future, unless you want to improve the breed and have owners lined up.

Hi Megz your dog will be in season for about three weeks, she is most likly to get pregnant between the 11th to 14th day, so leave her indoors for at least three weeks, but if you are really desperate to take her out then keep her on the lead, and take something like an old walking stick out with you to fend off any amourous males, and make sure that you disinfect your front and back door, this will keep the dogs from smelling her and hanging about. glad to hear you are getting her spayed, truly a responsible owner good luck x

Walks are possible however i would not personally unless you can be certain no dogs follow you home. Instead play games with her to mentally stimulate her. You could teach her new tricks like doggie dancing or do things like scent work. Anything that makes her think about what she has to do will tire her out and she wont be bored. Its hard work keeping her in but if it stops unwanted pregnancy then its worth it. As for how long it will last i dont know average is about 3 weeks. You will just have to wait and be patient. Dont take her out for another 2weeks just to be safe.If you are able to maybe take her around the block/roads etc at night, only if theres no other dogs around.Yes she can still become pregnent,so dont take any chances.Regarding spaying, bitches can be spayed as young as 5/6months so when shes finished her season, wait for a couple of months,so her hormones settle down again, then go to your vet who will be happy to give you all the advice on spaying and the best time.Good luck.

If she is old enough to go into heat, she is definitely old enough to spay.
Most vets recommend spaying before the first heat cycle to reduce the risk of later developing mammary (breast) cancer.
Between 4-6 months is ideal.
Have her spayed ASAP, dogs will become pregnant if bred in the next 4-21 after the bleeding has appeared to stop.
No need to wait until she is out of "heat"

Yes, she can still get pg. but is less likely now than when she was in standing heat.

I would go a head and walk her but keep her away from males. If you feel that you couldn't stop a male from mounting then I would wait the full 3 weeks just to be sure.
