Generally no, Vegetarian food is not more costly than regular food. The factors to take into consideration are there are vegetarian imitation meats which can be quite expensive sometimes. Also, regular meat can be quite cheap it you buy the low quality [and therefore low nutritional value] variety. But you can have a variety of vegetarian foods without the meat imitations; when you do that, it is cheaper (otherwise, it’s roughly the same). You can also get good quality meat but the price is generally higher than regular meat, and therefore can be more costly than a vegetarian diet.
So really it’s really a question of what kinds of foods you are buying for your respective diet.

I wouldn't think so. I mean at least on eating out. I'm a vegitarian and when ever I go out to eat, every thing seems to be cheaper. Probably because of popular demand. As for shopping, Vegitarians have a less variety to choose from while meat eaters could eat anything. I'm not positive, I'm only 15, and I don't do my own shopping but I would say that being a Vegitarian is cheaper than meat.

I believe it to be cheaper as a vegetarian. I cook everything from scratch. I do believe that four vegetarian burgers, premade, are more expensive that four hamburgers, premade.

Pasta without meatballs is less expensive than pasta with meatballs, how's that for logic?

Meat is more expensve to care for in transport, and is going to become more expensive as people become more afraid of diseases, like Mad Cow, Ecoli and others. Of course some of these affect vegetables also.

Growing vegetables lower the cost, but even meat eaters can grow and eat veggies.

SO, depends on what you are eating, and how much of it you would like to eat.

No it's not. This is because if it's flavoured, it isn't actually meat and some vegetarians believe in not eating meat because they don't want animals to suffer, so flavored meat products is a way to ensure that they can enjoy the same taste but no animals get killed in the process.

Beans, rice, and lentils are cheaper than meat. Nuts are expensive, but meat is more expensive unless you buy the low quality stuff on sale.

If you shop wisely, vegetarian food is quite cheap.

Vegetables are cheap as hell! So long as you aren't going about buying pre-packaged foods, you'll probably find it's fairly easy on your wallet to go vegetarian. Tofu's expensive, but there's no reason to include it in every meal like some veggies I know.

Meat's crazy expensive.
