When you Ask the Father to Fill you (after you have been Born-Again, Saved) you are.
You might Fill something, you might not.
You see, the Holy Spirit needs your Permission to enter into your Soul.
HE (Holy Spirit) is Already in your Spirit, GOD is the Perfect Gentleman.

Now, the Holy Spirit has Permission after you Ask to be Filled, the Holy Spirit will give you the UTTERANCE, but YOU have to Supply the Sound (Activate your Vocal Cords).
The Utterance is the Forming of the Words of the Sound you Supply.

There are alot of People that have Already Been Filled walking around thinging that they have not been filled Because they didn't FEEL Any thing when they asked.
They haven't Learned How to Operate in the Infilling (Talking in Tongues--praying in Tongues).

Don't Worry about satan slipping a devil in on ya, After your Born Again, GOD Almighty makes sure you get the Real Thing.

But, if your not Born-Again, I would NOT ask such a Thing.
Hope this helps.

Scripture: if a son asks his Father for a Fish, the father won't give him something false.

It sounds like you had some doubts.
Was it a positive experience?
What was your motivation for seeking this gift of the Holy Spirit?
I'd say pray for understanding in this and trust the answer will come. It will be more meaningful than anything else I could say

you might want to ask your self, is 'speaking in tongues' that is done today the same that was done by the first-century Christians?

the gift was given to people to go out and preach/prophesy..1Cor.14:5

Jesus said that the holy spirit would come upon his followers and that they would be witnesses of him to the most distant part of the earth. (Acts 1:8) He instructed them to "make disciples of people of all the nations." (Matt.28:19)

Today, is it not true that 'speaking in tongues' usually involves an ecstatic outburst of unintelligible sounds?

I don't think that it is used the same today as it was originally used for in the past.

Hopefully this helps answer your question, good luck.

the Bible speaks of speaking in tongues as being a lesser gift. Some religions claim it is proof of salvation. I think it is a gift which you can ask for.

It is perfectly fine for you to pray for that, but just remember God might not enable you to speak in tounges like what happened in Acts chapter 2.

I personally don't see any useful purpose for this. People don't need to be possessed by some alleged spirit in churches.
