I just joined track & I was wondering how I could get faster. What foods should eliminate, and what can I do to increase my speed?

You'll get quicker as you get stronger. And the best ways to become a stronger runner are...

1. Increase your weekly mileage (within reason...never more than 15-20% more than the preceeding week).
2. Interval workouts: These are like practice meets. Run them with purpose and determination...you'll get faster.
3. Hills: Mainly a distance runner workout, hill intervals are a great way to strengthen your legs. You run a shorter stride and against the force of gravity. When you're on the open, flat track, that extra strength will push you along.

Best of luck. See the link below for more guidance.

No, jumping high does not make you a faster runner. Speed is muscular so you can do total body work along with plyometrics, which are different types of bounding and jumping to build explosive strength. To get better at running you have to run. If you work on lifting and doing the plyometrics you will have the basis to improve your running. What kind of running are you working for? If it is football then you should train for short bursts of speed. If it is another sport you need to look at the distances required for your sport. A big part of speed it reaction. That means the start. Whether it is out of the blocks in a race, or getting to a fly ball in the outfield. Speed is power so you have to be able to relax stand up tall, keep your elbows at 90 degrees, swing them straight front to back, and not across your body. When your foot contacts the ground it should be under your body traveling rear ward at the same speed you are moving forward and in a pawing motion. Land on the balls of your feet.

It all depends on what distance you are training for. First you must build a base. Do distance, distance, distance. Then after a couple of months, start doing speed work. This will increase your stride and your turnover. That is where your speed comes from from. As Far as foof, eat plenty of carbs so you won't lose energy in the middle of workouts and take vitamens. try mcmillanrunning.com.

I found out from being in the army there are a few ways for doing this. One is adding weight to your run like ankle weights or a conditioning vest. Another is to run extreme long distances without stopping. And last but yet the best is running 60/30's run for 60 sec than jog for 30. good luck man.

Speed Work - This takes a while, but it will increase your speed. Find a wall that is about a foot high. Jump off of your left foot and put your right foot on the wall (as it will naturally get there first). Let your left leg come up as fast as you can. Do the same thing coming down. Try to do about fifteen. Do fifteen double jumps, jumping off of two feet and landing with two feet. Do the same thing that you did at first, but switch legs. Your left legs gets on the wall first.
i think that this is a fabulous website that will give you awesome tips!!!
