if you are referring to an air conditioning compressor then check following
1. is sufficient gas available
2. oil level
3. is the condenser working properly
4. is the evaporator parameters satisfactory

I'm assuming you are referring to an air compressor.
THE VERY FIRST THING YOU DO IS START YOUR SPARE
COMPRESSOR. Check the oil on the hot comp.
1. Adjust the cooling water to lower the jacket temp.
2 Check the cooling water output to see how much there is. If outlet flow is low, clean inlet strainer.
3 Flush c.w. jacket using maximum flow possible.
4 Get a garden hose and position it to flow around the jacket.
5. Call Maintenance
