I have been in the service (Army), and also have had a brother and 2 nephews in Iraq. My advice would be what you have heard already - keep your eyes open, stay alert, and watch yourself and watch out for your fellow soldiers. Be sure your son knows that you love him, and stay in touch as much as you can. Take a digital camera with you, and try to email pictures back and forth.

At least you have something to come home too that is so important. Keep that in your mind while your there. Worry only about yourself and the other Marines next to you. NOTHING ELSE. Coming back home should be the only thing on your mind while your there. Youll be fine. Stay motivated and remember what you were trained. It will keep you alive. Always remember to stay motivated and let no one get in the way of you making it back alive! Semper Fi bro and remember people like Chesty. Stay Harcorps!!!!!!!!

I was in the Air Force and miss it so much. I cannot imagine what you are going through. You must feel so torn. I have been sitting here trying to think of things to say (I'm a counselor) but am actually not sure what to type. All I can say is thank you for being you. Thank you for being brave and serving our country. May you return soon and be able to father your boy. May he grow up to be as brave and strong as you.

I would suggest you set up a contingency plan, that if something happens to you, that your family will have insurance/support in the event of you demise. Its good to hope for the best, but in case, prepare for the worst, its the least you can do as a responsible parent.
Otherwise, just keep yourself sharp, and pray for a safe return.
