the bible is divided into books genesis, exodus and others the old testament and Mathew, mark, Luke and john the new testament
the old testament is taken from the Jewish form of the bible known as the Torah although it has been translated many time from the original text.
where as the new testament is about Christ from his birth to his death made up of the four apostle and letters from the apostles, Romans and others and is purely a christian text christian-(catholics, baptists, Jehovah witnesses, born again Christians and many others)
the main difference is faith since the Jewish faith did not take Christ to be the son of god but instead a prophet the new testament was made to fill a gap in a new and fast growing religion (Christianity)
had the Jewish faith taken Christ to be the son of god in all likely hood there would have been no Christianity.

The Old Testament is based on the Jewish Torah and before Jesus. The New Testament is based after Jesus and adopted by the Church much later in history so they could absorb the followers that began to follow these new beliefs, at first seeing them as undermining the Church. Hope this helps.

The Old Testament concentrates exclusively on the people who are referred to as Jews. The New Testament brings the offer of forgiveness of sin to all people. Jew and Gentile alike.

Far less than many folks in USA presently realize. The Lord from Genesis-Malachi was the Lord Jesus Christ. What many in the USA call the 'New Testament' is founded on Jesus (as many Americans think of him) coming to earth as a person.

Everything in the Old Testament is leading you up to God's perfect revelation of Himself, disclosed in the New Testament in the Person of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
"God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, has in the last days spoken to us in a Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the ages. And He is the outshining of His glory, and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He has made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high;" (Hebrews 1:1-3)
