Time is what will eventually make it go away, but try eating white bread, slowly. Also a nice crisp cold lager can help. I am not sure that it actually takes the discomfort away, but if you drink enough you won't care as much. Heck, you might decide to have another sip of hot sauce! Maybe you would like some Dave's Insanity Sauce, heh heh.

milk is wrong it only helps because it is cold.
milk is actually an acid on it's own.

Make a solution of a couple of hefty spoons of baking soda and water. the sodium ions in the sodium bicarbonate will cancel out the hydrogen (spicyness)

also to make a meal less spicy add salt or put it in the mcrowave with a raw peice of potato. or just eat sugar if its just a mental thing and not much damage done.

Drink milk or eat bread. It cuts down on the oils that make the sauce spicy. Don't drink water...it spreads it.

Eat a piece of bread. Drinking water makes it worse.

drink milk or any dairy product.

spicy foods contain a chemical called capsacin, which binds to the taste receptors in your mouth. this is a negatively charged molecule. milk contains calcium, which is a positively charged atom. They bond together and then you swallow the product. Thus the pain is reduced.

It's as simple as drinking a glass of cold white milk.
