Sorry - I agree...you need to respect your Dad's answer...Besides, at 16, wouldn't you rather be hanging out with boys or your friends than having to be home to take care of a puppy? When you grow up and get out of the house, make it your goal to get a puppy.

Do you think you can fully take care of a puppy? That means training and feeding and exercise and vet visits (not cheap) and bathing and on and on. I, in no way want to discourage you in getting a Boxer, but is a pup really for you? What will happen to it when you want to go out with your school friends or you have school activities? Maybe approach Dad with getting an older, more mature Boxer from your local rescue. These animals are wonderful and come to you already vet checked, spayed or neutered and usually house broken and good with people in general. You have made a great choice in a loyal, loving, life long companion animal and I wish you the best and by the way, Happy Sweet 16.

I don't think your question should be how to convince him because he has probably based his decision on many factors such as the expenses involved, is the yard suitable, is the family home enough, are they educated enough to train the dog. Talk to him first to find out what factors he is thinking of and try to work out a plan together. Perhaps you can save money for a year to pay for the vet bills, study on training the dog, volunteer at an animal shelter to learn from others mistakes anf prove your responsibility. Plus, you have to think that if you are 16 you will probably be moving out of the house in a few years and your dad may be afraid he will end up caring for the puppy when you leave. These are just a few things you might want to consider before making your dad into the bad guy. Try to see things from his point of view.

Who will buy this dog? Who will pay for food? Who will pay for vet bills? Who will pay for neutering/spaying? Who will pay for pet insurance? Who will train the dog? Who will walk the dog? Who will clean up after the dog?

At 16, your life is already full with school, friends, part-time job and other teenager activities. Do you have the money to do any of the above? Do you have the TIME to do any of the above?

Your father is seeing another responsibility - one that he is not prepared to take on. And unless you can show him that you do have the means to do those chores, I have to agree with him.

Also, even if everyone in your house would love a dog, but your dad, he may have the deciding vote. He doesn't want a dog and it can cause additional stress in the household, stress that he may not want.

My advice is to sit down with your dad and have a mature talk. Find out his reservations and concerns. If you can maturely address each one - and then HONOR any commitments you promise - maybe he may change his mind. But at 16, my advice is to not get a dog and wait until you are older and on your own.

Sorry - no advice on how to talk your dad into getting a puppy.

A dog is the responsibility of everyone who lives in the household with it, so everyone who lives in the home needs to agree to getting the dog. Otherwise it's just unfair to the dog.

show him that you can take care of it and try to raise money to pay for the dogs training sessions. this shows that you are commited.

Offer to pay for half of it and to buy it's food. It should show him that you'll be responsible enough to take care of him.
