Do you mean give up something?

Sure, if you want to. Sacrifice is beneficial for everyone - not just Christians or people who believe in God for that matter.

Think of it this way... doesn't food taste better when you are really hungry? Or, have you ever waited a really long time for something you really wanted? It's great when you finally get it, right? Why? Because when you have done without, it makes it all that much better when you receive. So, when you give something up for a period of time, it makes us appreciate it all the more when we finally get it.

Giving up something small, like candy, for lent may seem trivial- but it also teaches us self control and can help us maintain self--control in other areas. Self controll is something basic everyone needs to work on and something we are always trying to teach our children. Why not start small?

Even if it has nothing to do with religion, self sacrifice is a good thing. Parents sacrifice for their children all of the time. Husbands and wives make sacrifices for eachother. It's a part of our lives and it's good, so why not choose to do it?

Yes - Going on about Lent would be a good thing to give up for a start!

Lent's a christian festival so seems silly non-christians doing anything special at that time.
Anti-christians could celebrate chocolate eating, a different choccie bar for each day, yum - problem is you get fat if your'e over 30 and do that.

Well, I'm a Christian, and this year, I've decided that I'm going to do a "reverse Lent." I've spent a lot of years letting other people beat me down and tell me that I'm worthless, and that stops as of right now. Instead of giving up things, I'm going to focus on doing good things for myself and others. I'm going to celebrate life and honor God in positive ways.

Anybody care to join me?

hehehehehehe... reminds me of the arguments I used to have with my folks when I was a kid and they told me I had to give something up for Lent. But to answer your question:

Yes, they should! They should take up a new volunteer project of some sort, something that will help others.

apart from the religious side of it, it is great self discipline. It also helps us to realise to an small extent(Unless we give up all food and clean water), what the people with nothing go through every day of their lives. Yes I think it would be good practice, even if you are not religious. You could do something really simple...it depends on what you are really dependant on...for example, if you really love chocolate, and all things sweet, like me, the you give those up, and donate the money that you save to charity!!the same applies to alchohol or anything else.you could just set yourself a target, like to do something really nice everyday, just a really small deed(like give someone a lift to work, or make dinner for someone, or even just remember your pleases and thank yous!)anyway,Ihope that you decide to do something, because I think it is good for the charactor...good luck!
