Okay. My mom works for the FDA and makes about 90,000 dollars a year and my dad owns his own business and makes about 32,000 dollars a year. However, the FDA just announced major lab closings across the country, and my mom's lab is one of them meaning that she'll lose her job, and we, a family of 6, cannot live on my dad's salary alone.

Now, we could move, however, one of our major goals in life was to stay in the same town all our lives, so that's out of the question.

Also, we are having many other problems, such as we own a condo and it sucks about 2000 dollars away every month because it's winter and we can't get it rented.

So, my question: What do you think we should do? Do you want to rent our condo?

If you need any more details, specify and ask.

Alright. We're one of those families that actually saves money, so we're in a better situation than most people. However, we can barely live on what my parents make now, seeing as my parents are careful about investing and saving. So taking a pay-cut or being unemployed is not an option for us.

And about the condo: We're trying to sell AND rent it. Neither one is happening because it's winter and the house market is down. And even if we sold the condo now, we'd be selling it at a loss, which is why we ant to rent it.

I think this is your parents problem. I am sure they will work it out between the two of them. Your mom should be able to find another job, even if it means a cut in pay. Good luck.

That's a huge loss of income for your family, but let's assume your mom will find something else... say, $32,000 minimum. You're not quite sunk, but you need to sell the condo. Not rent it, but sell it. That would give you a cushion of money for emergencies. You and your siblings could help out by taking on age appropriate jobs (selling newspapers, babysitting, yardwork, cleaning services, grocery baggers, etc. etc.). You're all going to have to pull together and cut out the extras you don't really need, but I'm sure you can do it! So... hang in there and good luck!

well your parents would qualify for food stamps and welfare. the other good idea, is for your parents to have like 3 or 4 of the kids go to live with a relative for a while, OR give them up for adoption. those are the only sensible answers i can come up with.
