For example, this morning I listened to Faure's Requiem while getting ready for work. I stayed a little late at work, but I might make it to the tail end of my church's Ash Wednesday's contemplative service tonight if I leave in a few minutes. They'll probably have ashes there. If not, I might burn a match and smear some on myself when I get home.

I considered fasting, but I didn't. I haven't yet eaten meat today, though.

So, out of curiosity, what are you doing/have you done?

Fasting --- Went to the kids Mass (got ashes on head) --- Hung out at the Adoration Chapel --- will have cheese fondue for dinner.

Also, I found this prayers and I think I'll say it a few times:

"Blessed are you, O Lord our God, the all-holy one, who gives us life and all things. As we go about our lives, the press of our duties and activities often leads us to forget your presence and your love. We fall into sin and fail to live out the responsibilities that you have entrusted to those who were baptized into your Son.

In this holy season, help us to turn our minds and hearts back to you. Lead us into sincere repentance and renew our lives with your grace. Help us to remember that we are sinners, but even more, help us to remember your loving mercy.

As we live through this Ash Wednesday, may the crosses of ashes that mark our foreheads be a reminder to us and to those we meet that we belong to your Son. May our worship and prayer and penitence this day be sustained throughout these 40 days of Lent. Bring us refreshed and renewed to the celebration of Christ’s resurrection at Easter.

We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen."

I think I am going to sit down to a huge steak dinner (probably on Friday) and eat til I am stuffed and think of all the people who are giving up things because they have decided to treat man-made traditions as things of God. Just giving you a hard time, no offense meant, you have a great Godly time at Mardi-gras. Fasting can be found in the Bible but The traditions of lent go back to the Romans and we know what they thought of Christ. Fat Tues. was known as Shrove Tues. and the idea behind Lent was for pennance. This is a pagan Roman tradition, not one of God. If you want to fast, then fast but don't do it because a church says you should. Follow God not man. In defense of Cluelessclown, maybe he chose a name to represent people like you, kinda like looking in a mirror. Haha I hope you have a good sense of humor.

I didn't go to work. I took my son to church and received ashes. The ashes at church are blessed and they are the ashes from the palms of last years palms from Palm Sunday. I refrained from eating beef, pork, or chicken.

God does not care if you eat meat today or if you have ashes on your forehead. God only cares for you to accept His Son, Jesus, as Lord of your life and to live a life glorifying Him. end of story. :)
