Cats don't dislike water. But most of them don't like the feeling it leaves. For example, when I have to wash my cat--only her back legs after she goes potty--she spends the next hour licking herself. I think they associate being wet with being dirty.

cats do not like water because it's an evolutionary defense mechanism to protect them from drowning. Cats do not have the innate ability to swim that dogs have (almost every dog breed can swim except for a few). In addition, exposure to water increases the likelihood of a cat getting ill; any cat owner that has ever bathed a cat and then dried them only to experience them shivering can attest to this. Cats usually do not shake themselves dry a la dog behaviour. I hope this provided some insight.

cats are very clean animals and they do not like the feeling of being wet... water does not hurt their skin..
some cats can be trained at a young age to enjoy water... and there are some wild cats that actually spend a lot of time in the water hunting

I'm not real sure why cats don't like water, but I do know it does not hurt them. My cat doesn't mind water a whole lot. She keeps trying to get in the shower when it's running.

Most house cats do not have the kind of fur that sheds water so when they get wet, all of their many layers of fur gets wet and it takes a long time to dry, and during that drying period, they have to be kept warm because cats get cold easily. They also are not built to swim and they seem to know this (heavy wet fur+difficulty swimming=avoid watery situations). There are some cats (like Van cats) who love water though.

We had a cat that would rather swim across the swimming pool instead of walking around. Have a cat that sleeps in the bathroom sink that drips and another that plays in the toilet whenever you flush it. So I would not say cats do not like water, some play in it

As with all creatures, each has it's own preferences. Water is just that water. It does not effect a cat physically in any way.

They don't like being cold. My daughter's cat loves to take warm baths. When he hears the water running he will go into the bathroom and if you are running warm water he will try to get into the tub. I have also seen videos of lions and tigers swimming in rivers.

Haha.. no water doens't hurt their skin. Cats like to keep their fur nice and tidy. Sopping wet fur isn't very tidy! Wet fur means they have spend hours licking it dry. How 'd you like that? :P
