God's name, the tetragrammaton, appears more than 7000 times in the original text, so he obviously wanted us to know it. We are also taught to pray to him and "hallowed (blessed) be thy name", so his name must be important. But why did the author of the greatest book ever written, allow his name to be taken out of it? And why do priests say that the name of God is God? God is just a title like, President or Teacher. Why do they ignore the Tetragrammaton? This is more than just one question I realize, but it burns me up. How well do you someone if you don't even know their name? How can we say we know God and have a personal relationship with him, when we don't even know his name?

Oh, and Lord instead of a name just doesn't cut it. If you wrote the bestseller of all times, would you like your name on the book, or just 'good author'?

JC Follower, I do speak Greek and study ancient languages. I am currently in Greece looking over manuscripts...not of the bible though. How did you know?

The Tetragrammaton does not have vowels so it cannot be pronounced. Some guesses are: Allelulah, Yah, Yahveh, Jehovah.

Gary B, I never listen to priests or religion. I go for the hard facts of the bible, and through scientific research come to my conclusions. The Bible has persuaded me fully that it speaks only truth because I can't find anything to refute it.

very. very good point. since the world is filled with "freewill"
humans have chosen to opt out the bible because they feel
like it. natually people will exploit his name and make money
off it. i would too if it paid the bills. believe it or not the aliens from
space actually taught man religon. i know it sounds crazy. since
that, man picked up a few traits and just grew off of it. now we
have religous dictators and non-dictators. there are actually religous crack head preachers outthere literally. it's funny as hell
to see em praise god and still be hopped up on crack.

Here are a few possibilities:

1. God doesn't exist.

2. There is a God, but the Bible is just a book which has nothing to do with the REAL God.

3. There is a God, and the Bible is a God-inspired book, but it was still written by men, and men are bound to make mistakes.

4. God didn't want you to know His name, for his own reasons.

5. God didn't think it important for you to know His name.

6. "God" is not just a title, but also the actual NAME of God.

7. God doesn't have a name, but just IS.

8. God wants you to learn His name only through enlightenment.

9. God doesn't like his real name, and is ashamed to let you know it.

10. God's name cannot be pronounced and it's extremely long. If God's real name was in the Bible, it would take 6,198,229 pages just to write it down, in small font.

If God's name appears in the original text, then his name is not taken out, it is still there. God's name in translation is different, even his title is different. I think in Spanish, God is Dios. I don't think the name matters so much, as to his attributes that make him who he is. For example, if I say "the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob" then you know I am talking about the God of the Bible, and not say Allah, the god of the Koran. Allah is not the God of Jacob (Israel).
YWHW or Yaweh or Jehovah or Elohim.
Priests say a lot of things. It seems that you are searching and looking for truth and this is good. I think some people just believe what priests say instead of checking out things for themselves.

Actually, the name of God never was in the Bible. The tetragrammaton is actually an abbreviation, not a whole word.

The name of God was considered so holy that no one was allowed to say it, write it, or spell it.

That's really cool that you can read Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. You've even had an opportunity to read the original manuscripts. Not many people get to do that.

God has many names...and they are in the Holy Bible...

Check it out...

My Lord has lots of names you just don't 1. Remember them. 2. Just have not heard with your ears or seen with your two eyes. 3. You just have a hard time learning the Truth.

Man wrote the bible, not God. And even if you believe those men wrote it like it was coming directly from the mouth of god, Man sure has editted the heck out of the Bible since then. So it's man's fault.

Umm, I don't really know. But really, his name wasn't taken out of the bible. Probably in every paragraph or something it says "This is the word of the lord" or something like that.

You put him on the same playing field as us. We like to know someones name. Your argument is valid if you look at it this way. We humans like to know each others name if we are going to say we "know" them. But he isn't one of us, and he doesn't need to play by our rules, to make us comfortable or to make us understand. He is who he is and it transcends a name to those who understand
