Use louizianne tea and do not steep (soak) the bag too long. follow directions on the box. most people use too many bags. Im from TEXAS so make it, pour lots of sugar in it and fill your cup up to the top with ice before putting the tea in.

For the best sweet tea, use 3 family size bags for 1/2 gallon or 5 for 1 gallon. "Sweet" is not only to taste, but to type of water. Hard water may require more sugar, but soft or bottled water may require less. My general rule is 1/2 cup sugar per 1/2 gallon. If the water is harder, or it tastes like it needs more, add up to another 1/2 cup sugar (for a total of 1 cup per 1/2 gallon).
How you brew the tea is the most important, as water that never boils but gets hot is the best. You can make this with 1 quart of water and the tea bags on the stove, bring to a simmer, then cut off the heat, cover and let sit for 10-15 minutes. Add the sugar and stir while hot, then pour in container and add water and/or ice to make 1/2 or 1 gallon. If not sweet enough, add more sugar next time, as the sugar melts better when hot.
The second way is to put the water in your coffee maker and the teabags in the carafe. Follow the same directions.
The all time best way is "Sun tea". Put the tea bags in water in a 1/2 or 1 gallon container with the tags sticking out and put the lid on, but not real tight. Sit out in the Sun all day, then bring in (make sure you leave enough room to add the sugar), add sugar, put lid on and shake well. Then, chill and serve.

You can either put the tea bags in a pot of water on the stove OR you can put the tea bags in the brew basket of a coffee maker and brew it that way (which is my favorite way, because you don't have to monitor the stove to keep the tea from boiling over or boiling too long and turning bitter). Anyway, to make a gallon of sweet tea (keep in mind that I am from the Southern USA--this is how we do it)---put 4 family size tea bags in the brew basket of the coffee maker OR in a medium sized pot of water on the stove. If you use the coffee maker, just fill the coffee pot with cold tap water and brew....if you use the pot, set the stove on high and bring the water to a boil (take it off the stove burner as soon as it comes to a boil or the tea will be bitter). I put about 1 and a half cups of sugar (actually I use Splenda, but I assume you want to use real sugar) in a gallon sized tea pitcher. Pour the HOT tea into the tea pitcher and stir to dissolve the sugar. Fill the tea pitcher the rest of the way with cold tap water. Stir again to mix it well. Pour over a glassful of ice and ENJOY!

The way I make mine is boil a kettle of water and when it starts boiling, it put the tea bags in....8 small or 2 family size. I use 2 cups of sugar for every 2 quart. For a gallon, I would use 3 cups. I put the sugar in first and then pour the tea in and stir. I like my tea really sweet, though so use less sugar if you don't. I've never had anyone tell me that my tea wasn't good!

Well first of all Lipton Tea is the bestest of all teas that's my opinion. I also have used generic tea when I use generic tea I use 6 to 8 tea bags and a cup of sugar with cold water i use a tea machine first of all with then cold water and always put the gallon of tea in the frig. that will carmelize the sugar and make it sweet to don't drink if right away. i love teas too and its good to experiment good luck.

My wife takes 5 tea bags, puts them in a small pot of water on the stove.
Heat the pan until the water starts to boil then let it cool.
Take the teabags out and pour the tea into a gallon container.
You can add as much water as you like for taste. The choice of sweetener is up to you.

Put very hot water, one cup short of a gallon, into container. Place three family size tea bags in leaving tags on outside and cover, let stand. Dissolve one cup sugar in one cup warm water. When tea in container reaches your desired darkness, remove tea bags, add sugar water, stir pour over ice. Enjoy! You can also add lemon slice to glass,or bruised mint leaves.
