I don't know where you are located but there are various Volvo-only salvage yards around the country that would be glad to supply a block. One that I use frequently is Revolvstore in Tucson, AZ, 1-800-28-VOLVO or www.revolvstore.com. There are others and an internet search would probably disclose them.

The older Volvos are the best ones. IE the rear wheel drive ones. The 200, 700, 900, etc series. Eventually the folks at Volvo caved in to the idea of planned obsolescence and went to front wheel drive like most of the rest. Now they are built and look like a Ford Taurus. Anyway, the 2.3L in the RWDs can't be beat. They go an easy 300K miles and it's not unheard of for them to hit 400K. My 760 currently has 460K and runs like a top. It does show some wear and tear of course, but I think its going to see half a million. The weak point in these cars is the electronics, they are convoluted and almost assuredly will require some attention during the life of the car.
