Start with a saving account. Once you have enough in savings the bank may be willing to allow you to tie it to a checking account. The purpose of a saving account is to hold your money until you want or need it.

The purpose of the checking account is to make it easy to pay bills. Some people mis-use the system and write checks on money they don't have. Start slow and all will work.

I would say WaMu, but I'm not entirely sure how the Chase takeover will affect things in terms of service, fees, etc. Otherwise USBank is good... low fees and great customer service. HSBC is decent, but their branches are in pockets- strong presence in some regions and nothing in others. Yeah I've tried a lot of banks.

While it may be difficult to open a checking account if you are in Chexsys, it is possible to obtain a checkless debit card which works the same as a debit card tied to a checking account, but there are no checks. It operates in one of two ways, you can have your employer load it each payday with your paycheck, (similar to direct deposit) or you can cash your check at one of those scandalous check cashing places and put the money on yourself by sending in a money order to the account the card is associated with.

If you want more information about these kinds of cards you may email me at nebula7693@yahoo.com and I will provide you with more complete information.

Try US Bank, my friends had the same problem so they tried US Bank and they gave them a bank account so try them if you have a chance. Otherwise all the other banks are really strict.
