Being a life long Democrat, I wonder the same. It's about time politicians listen to the majority of the people. Call, write, or e-mail your congressman to get busy on this matter.

Sadly it is because the present administration wants to use the funding primarily for the "New Surge" and not the existing troops there now in both Iraq and Afghanistan. The Bush plan is just the same old arrogant "staying the course" with a new wrapping and bow. Both newly Democratic House and Senate are not buying into it because most logical people know that it would be insane to further engulf our brave troops in an obvious civil war as referees. This narcissistic president and his self-serving administration can no longer get away with doing things unchecked and without warranted scrutiny. The Republican statement that the Democrats are holding back money from the troops is just another another lie to distract from the real actual fact: this president will still sleep calm at night regardless of who is sent to die in the desert just to fill his huge ego and that of his disillusioned buddies at the White House.

Because they will know that if they do this - they will never be able to regain the trust and confidence of those who wear the uniform.
When the troops start announcing that the Democrats stabbed them in the back - how many elections will they win?
(Remember that the troops believe that the war is not only winnable - but we need to win it. What do you think a spending cut will look like in their eyes?)

If Congress cuts the funding for our troops, the Democrats will not win another election until our generation is dead and this war is written into history books. There is nothing they can do to stop the troop surge, cutting the funds will do nothing except undermine our troops, not our President which is essentially what they want to do.

Because they'd be crucified for showing their true colors.
The American people aren't fond of this war, but they're not stupid--they realize that to win this thing we're going to need to increase the forces until the Iraqis are able to take the situation over themselves.

They still can't figure out if they were for it before they were against it or against before they were for it. Of course now that they have been elected, promises don't mean anything until the next election.
